The claimed speed is 500MB/s. However:

How could they even come close to getting such speed improvements merely by adding compression? and how bad will it perform with already compressed files?

The current sandforce drives also have the same compression. The speed improvements of the new drives are down to the 25nm process and other controller improvements not to mention the fact that it uses SATA 6Gbps instead of SATA 3Gbps which is already saturated by the current sandforce drives.

I LOVE the SF-1200 platform. I've installed 4 SF-1200 SSD's over the past month and they all rock! These drives are seriously the best thing since sliced bread. I really hope the SF-2000 pushes down the SF-1200's...I've been jonesing for a 240GB SSD in my laptop

Yeah i hear you man, if the SF-2000 240GB drives are priced similarly to todays 120GBs its gonna be a good christmas

-oh wow didn't know sandforce drives do more than 300mb in 4k\8k\ random read\writes ,[59% of computer read \writes] in every bench mark - size and workload.
-and these new ones still on 34mm chips will do 500mb wow
-learn something new every day.

The ONFI 2 spec/compatibility is one of the things enabling the higher speeds. The smaller NAND is also inherently faster.

Also... I thought it was saying the architecture didn't change, then the article is saying that it has added DDR like capability (which should double the speed... which is inline with the claimed improvements in speed)
You don't necessarily need an architecture change to enable DDR functionality, more like a "tweak".

ah, there we go, this explains it...
basically everything is "chaff" except for the DDR like capability doubling the speed, which technically is not a major change.. eh, go figure.

SandForce will demonstrate SF-2000 products at the Storage Networking World Exhibition, booth #413 (Gaylord Texan Hotel, Dallas, Texas, October 11-14). SandForce 2.5-inch SSD reference designs will be on display operating with 30nm-class Flash memory with both ONFi2 and Toggle interfaces. Other products on display in the SandForce booth include unique form factor products from various SandForce Driven SSD manufacturers with SATA, SAS, and PCI Express host interfaces. All SandForce SSD Processors include award-winning DuraClass Technology with features like RAISE to reduce field failures and returns, DuraWrite to optimize MLC endurance in write intensive applications, and a high sustained and balanced read/write performance.

These things are gonna almost be twice as fast as 2nd gen SSD. WOW

and triple the capacity. But a hefty price tag

300GB 300 dollars, 600GB 450 dollars.... no good

buy a smaller one...
currently you can get a 40GB one for ~110$ and 80GB for ~220$, yes?
currently 360GB SSD is 1000$ and 256GB SSD is 470$ for some unknown ADATA one... the c300 is 570$

So 300GB for 300$ is AMAZING Price, close to 1/3 of current price.
And what do you need that much SSD space for? OS + Programs + games you currently playing can't be that much... I am only using 49GB out of my 80GB (well, 74GB in windows) intel SSD.

Please give me a crazy-fast 300GB SSD for $300. I would buy that in an instant.

Interesting to see the actual performance stack-up against the new G3 Intel drives. Theoreticals mean nothing to me, benchmarks either, I want actual performance.

50,000 IOPS is only on reads.

You sure about that because the specs for the drive i have with the special sauce FW says 50K write IOPS.

It doesn't mention anything about the read IOPS though. Are IOPS numbers the same for read and write on the SF-1200 series controllers?

60 k Read and Write...attached... well Maybe not. I have the Analysts briefing and it is 60 k read and write at 4k random. Peviously, the controller could be identified by the difference read to write but the 'breakthrough' that SandForce details is that all will be equal in read and write performance.
