Sandisk Cruzer Micro MP3 Companion

I know this product just came out recently but I was just wondering if anyone here has it and could give some opinions about it. For example, how is the music quality and battery life? Is it easy to navigate? I am trying to decide between this or getting a 512MB MMC for my cell phone which also has built-in MP3 capabilities.

I was just doing a search for mp3 players and I figured I'd reply to this one. I just returned my second mp3 companion. Apparently it has a problem with heat or voodoo. It would work for a while, then turn off. If I tried to turn it back on, it would turn off immediately. The battery was fine. It also had a problem locking up occasionally. As much as I wanted to keep this, it just doesn't work.

Nice thread at a great time. I'm considering upgrading my 128 USB1.1 drive, and Staples has the Sandisk 512mb Micro on sale for $65. While I've got a 128mb iRiver MP3 player, it would be nice to be able to use the MP3 Companion when I wanted more space.

One thing that I got from that review is the MP3 player doesn't always work great with VBR encoded MP3's. Since most of my collection is VBR, I'm kinda relunctant to go for it.

Zipzoomfly has the mp3 player and a 256meg micro for $83 right now. Or $50 for the mp3 addon and $36.50 for the 256 micro. I've been reading that the 512 is hard to get at this time, as it appears out of stock at a lot of places. I would be hesitent in your shoes as well, regarding the VBR issue. I guess buy it at a place that has a good return policy.

Actually, the Staples deal I mentioend has the 512mb micro for $64.94 + tax (no rebates). It's not the hottest deal in the world, but only a few dollars more than Newegg's price for the 512mb micro.

Hmmm my local staples was OOS. I will check another one today.
Best price I could find on the player itself is $46.50 +$2 shipping + tax at newegg.
Or $50 + tax + free shipping at zipzoomfly.

I broke down and bought it. I tried a couple of VBR's that I have and they worked ok. Go figure...
