Amazon has the Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD on sale for $179.99, which is a heck of a deal.

EDIT: I just noticed that the 480 GB model is also on sale, for $279.99.

That's true, you would need another cable to transfer your previous install. It would be easy to do in a desktop. Are you using a laptop? If that's the case, you might be able to use the CD/DVD bay temporarily. Otherwise you will need either eSATA or USB. I like to use a hard drive dock for this purpose.

Clonezilla was already mentioned, and should do the job, just be sure that alignment is preserved. I used Easus Todo Backup Free recently for cloning my old SSD to a new one and it worked just fine. There are other options, but those two should get you started.

just installed. replaced a Vertex 4 OCZ. It crushes it. i think i had something wrong with it or something.

just used the clonezilla cd and worked like a charm for the copy over. Used an external USB HD enclosure for the clone, then stuck it in the laptop.

all you need is an extra sata data cable which should have come with your motherboard if you built your own PC, or is available for a couple of bucks online. your PC should have a spare sata power connector. once you have both drives connected, you can run the clonezilla live cd.

after you boot into windows on the new disk, you can expand the partition to max size from windows disk management.

You should post this as a new thread. The Ultra Plus is not the same as the Extreme II. It's a good deal, but mainstream vs Pro-grade products, so very very different.
