Im doing a new build, and really dont keep up with news on the sandy bridge recall and all that.

I am waiting for sandy bridge motherboards to come out to make my new build, but when can i expect them? which chipsets should I be looking for to come out on newegg?

And how much can I expect to spend on a decent board that is a good overclocker and is SLI capable?

thanks for any info in advance.

I also noticed many reviewers mentioned that theyre buying the cheaper boards because they are waiting for better boards to come out. Is it worth the wait? I mean when they say better, are they referring to better features? or a better overclock?

I plan on using it for gaming, possibly a SLI setup - so I'd like to hav that option

I dont know the difference between the 2 chipsets, H67 or P67.

all i need isa few usb3.0 abd sata6gbs on my board, no need for a bunch of them.

I need a decent overclocker, but not the best.

I want to install OSX, so will EFI bios help?

dunno what else I'd be looking for in a board.

The Fry's in Renton Washington has the new MSI P67A-GD65 rev B3, they got them on tuesday. One of the salesmen mentioned a new asus MB to be delivered next week.

H67 has on-board video - no overclocking..

SLI, USB and SATA will be same on all low - midrange boards . ( P67 )

You probably can't go wrong with any of the usual MOBO makers..
I would wait until there is a good selection and go with best price..

Tiger Direct shows 21 of them. Some ship today, others next week.

This is off topic but beware of TD's 25% restocking fee if your product is defective and deemed "non-conforming".

edit: just noticed for 1st time since recall there is a tab for 1155 motherboards on www.microcenter.com showing a few boards so this is definately a good sign of recovery and availability. Its like one of the above threads said, anyday now.

Mine is the H67 one, it was OOS when I last looked. I realize most people are looking for the P67 chipset but I actually decided the H67 was more what I needed. Of course I would have bought a board with overclocking and onboard video if one existed.

I only got it last night and after cleaning out the case and bringing my windows install back up from the upgrade I didn't really get to do much else with it. I can say that it works and that the layout of the motherboard was good and easy to build with. It appears to work fine with the cheap ass super talent ram I bought from a hot deal awhile back. Motherboards get better every generation though, I remember building used to be much more of a chore.

I was reading some reviews on AT, and came across this:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/z68-express-lucidlogix-virtu-ssd-caching,2888.html

What do you guys think about waiting for the z68 chipset?

and for gaming and browsing, is quicksync even necessary?

I was orginally planning to run P67 short term and then upgrade (is that the right word?) to Z68 when it became available. Now, though, after this whole Cougar Point mess, I'm more inclined to wait a bit longer to see how those boards launch -- or mabye even wait and see how LGA 2011 turns out and go there instead, if it isn't too "enthusiast"ically priced.

The other thing, too, I think is that application code will need to be written to use QS -- if you're currently encoding video with a software encoder, mabye the higher speed potential SB offers will be enough of an upgrade.

I guess I want to see how those additional features play out in real world use before deciding.
