Sansa Sandisk Extreme II

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have one yet? It's pretty new, but I was surprised how little (in fact, not at all) was it discussed anywhere.
I guess people don't care that much, because they already have their 840 Pros or something...

I switched over from Intel SSD 320 (160GB), and it's a world of difference.

The thing is pretty damn fast. This is with 12.8.1016 (I think) driver, btw.

Sandisk Extreme II created a splash when released and was reviewed by a lot of sites, incl AT where Anand himself said it was favorite SSD. If I was going for a new SSD, it would certainly be high on my list.

I have been hooting the horn on this SSD.

Its a OMGWOW performer for being from a company whose known more on flash drives.

The Sandisk Extreme II is well-liked, it just does not have the reputation that Samsung has built with their SSD line. Anandtech's review of the Sandisk is very encouraging to a lot of people who might not otherwise try a new SSD line.

The 480gb is currently on sale at $359 on Amazon, which is a great price if you need a drive right now.

Why the name of some gimmicky weight loss crap? Google knows what to do with it as much as I do, it appears.

Sandisk did crappy controller rebranding for awhile, and had poor performance with their own controllers, for a bit. They are now about where Micron was when the M4 was just months old...except a little worse, because there was a lot less good competition, then. Given that they've been designing flash controllers for ages (basically ever since they needed them), have an R&D and fab interest in the NAND underlying it, have have OEM ties, and have a generally good retail presence (like WD, non-techie people know them), just give them some time.

Another +1 for the Extreme II...I've read nothing but good things about it since it's launch. The first Extreme was/is one of the best SandForce based SSDs...I nearly bought one but went with a pair of Intel 520's due to it's cherry picked nand and custom firmware...and a good toolbox.
