Mine has also been canceled, although Google Checkout hasn't updated my order to reflect that yet. Too good to be true.

Mine too. Email said some information was incorrect in the product description. Must have been the price. That was too good of a deal to be for real.

Yep, got the same email. Still a bit disappointed, though, as this kind of bait-and-switch (scare quotes intentially left out) seems to be a fairly common occurrence with Buy.com for whatever. I remember there was a class action suit against them a while ago (late 90's, I think) for pulling the exact same thing with a great deal on a 21" monitor.

They kept the ad up for about two whole days, then didn't cancel the orders or begin refunding the money until about a week later. Makes me wonder if there isn't some kind of behind-the-scenes accountant maneuvering going on there where they're artificially inflating their sales numbers or something like that.

As it is, I'll buy small ticket items from them if there's little risk, but that's about it. Just don't trust them for anything that's more than a few bucks.

And for the curious who didn't get in on the non-deal, here's the email:

Dear Scrimmy,

We are writing to you regarding your order #xxxxxxxx.

At Buy.com we strive to provide the widest assortment of high-quality products at everyday low prices.
However, sometimes circumstances beyond our control affect our selection.

We were recently informed that item SanDisk 4GB Cruzer Micro USB 2.0 Flash Drive on your order contained information that was in error.
Because of this, the product has been automatically cancelled from your order.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

If you have any questions, please visit customer support at buy.com/support.

We appreciate your business.

Sincerely,

Customer Support

This seems like a scam. I used a new Gmail account for Google Checkout and most likely since I used it it will count as me having used my first time user Goodgle Checkout, forbidding me from using it for the next hot deal even though this order was cancelled.

This happened once before when I tried using Google Checkout on Thomas Distributing buying a bunch of batteries. They charged my card, but then cancelled it. I re-ordered but could not use the Google Checkout since it said I had alreadty redeemed that discount. Contacting Google was fruitless too...

I know how you feel as that happened to me as well.

Hopefully the OP will reflect this stuff in his title since I don't have to waste my time trying to figure out how to get one...

I find it funny that you think they are scamming YOU, when it's you who is creating multiple Google accounts to get discounts Google never intended to give out. Just who is really the scammer?

Ironic, isn't it? I always get a kick out of the people who get pissed when retailers don't honor prices. I'm as quick to get in on pricing mistakes as the next guy, but if it doesn't go through there's nothing you can do, just shrug it off and hope the next time you get lucky. What some people need to realize is they are not entitled, online retailers make mistakes all the time and they have every right to cancel orders due to pricing errors.

I'm not scamming anyone, i have had 5 Gmail accounts from years ago when I got invites when it was a beta. How is that a scam?

When Paypal used to have promotional discounts like holiday2005 you bet I used that on all three of my paypal accounts. That also is NOT a scam. And I know you will ask why I have 3 paypal accounts. 1 is required to accept credit card payments for items I sell on Ebay if I allow paypal, second is the paypal for when I want to accept payments but not have to pay the 3% fee, the third paypal account is for when I buy and it is linked to my credit card only.

Paypal tries all these BS fees and if I can recoup some of them it is fair play not a scam.

It was fun while it lasted.

Kinda reminded me of those old Dell / Western Digital hard drive deals, when a 120GB for $99 was a ridiculously awesome price, and everyone bought one whether they needed it or not. Back when some deals really were incredibly hot.
