SANTA ANA – Three Santa Ana police officers want to quash a surveillance video that shows officers making derogatory comments about a disabled woman and possibly snacking on pot edibles during a recent raid of a medical marijuana dispensary.

A lawsuit, filed last week in Orange County Superior Court by three unidentified police officers and the Santa Ana Police Officers Association, seeks to prevent Santa Ana Police Department internal affairs investigators from using the video as they sort out what happened during the May 26 raid of Sky High Collective.

Lawyers for police and the dispensary said the video – which has been widely seen on television and several online news sites, including ocregister.com – could play a key role in the ongoing investigation into the officers’ actions.

LOL what the fuck. this is amazing. they do something illegal and its on video so they want that video no allowed to be used.

disgusting. but not surprising.

“Narcotics police are an enormous, corrupt international bureaucracy … and now fund a coterie of researchers who provide them with ‘scientific support’ … fanatics who distort the legitimate research of others. … The anti-marijuana campaign is a cancerous tissue of lies, undermining law enforcement, aggravating the drug problem, depriving the sick of needed help, and suckering well-intentioned conservatives and countless frightened parents.” – William F. Buckley, Commentary in The National Review, April 29, 1983, p. 495

Officers sue to suppress video of the raid so investigators can't use it to figure out what happened during the raid? If this is granted it just supports my beef with the judiciary and prosecution when it comes to their roles in police abuse and their above the law culture.

That video and audio is very damning and featured a motley cast of officers doing all kinds of shady shit.

What always sticks out to me is just how cavalier officers are, having such confidence that accountability doesn't apply to them.

I mean, the video is so bad, I can't really blame them for at least trying to shut the video down as much as possible.

Completely terrible video, but the meme was slightly incorrect. During the video the officer said, "I was about to kick her in her nub. (officer laughs)".

This entire thing was a complete clusterfuck and only outlines the need for all police units to wear body cameras at all times with an independent body who can process requests for evidence as it should all be covered under the FOIA. If they DVR unit was purposefully damaged, the officers should be held accountable for destruction of evidence.

Some day in the future, people will look back at this war on drugs as one of the key policies that led to the decline of this country.

Too bad they can't see it now instead.

It's sad too, drug users are somehow deemed the absolute worst except when it happens to someone close to them. Then it's pleading for rehab and a giving them a second chance. Of course a forced rehab program for drug offenders (hard drugs like heroin and shit) wouldn't look like it's punishment. I think there should just be more options for punishment aside from throwing them in jail for decades automatically. I mean it costs serious money per individual in jail, so why not take that into consideration and provide alternatives that might cost as much or less. If nothing else, it may actually save tax payers some money.

Why would you even want to punish a drug user unless they committed a crime? And then so, wouldn't you just punish them for the crime regardless if they were a drug user or not? We don't punish people for drinking wine or having a beer at a ball game.

Wagging your finger or putting someone in a cage who has a drug problem very rarely solves the drug problem, or whatever led to drugs being used to self-medicate away a problem.

Some day, when real human biology is taught in schools outside of college-level courses, perhaps we'll be able to accurately look at drug usage as the problem it is, rather than the crime that it isn't.

You'd almost think it was their express job to HURT people.
And that as a society we... accept that role and position.

Start firing cops for this behavior plus the cops who observe it without reporting it and we'll see this crap disappear quick.
Let the unions complain then send them all to the arbitrator.

The officers ate the dangerous pot to prevent it from ending up on the street and ruining lives. He took one for the greater good.

LOL, they wanted to suppress it because they thought they had a "reasonable expectation of privacy" while performing a police raid, on the clock.

AFTER they destroyed the video cameras that they knew about...but apparently missed one.

Few bad apples according to Ackmed...nothing to worry about. The system is fine and dandy, and there are no real problems. Right?

I guess stealing drugs from people and using them yourself isn't a crime to cops. Sure seems like more then a few bad apples to me.

Glave, the attorney representing the police union, argued that the surveillance video was illegally recorded in violation of officers’ privacy rights. He said officers will suffer “irreparable harm,” including discipline and termination, if the video is used in the ongoing investigation.
“Without the illegal recordings, there would have been no internal investigation of any officer,” Glave said, in the lawsuit.

Well no s__t. It nice to see the police own attorney saying "if it was not on video no one would believe the pot heads over a cops word". This is why I hate it when Judges take a cops word as truth no matter what. And even when caught lying they get little to no punishment.

Yet another instance where EVERY SINGLE COP PRESENT either participated or in or witnessed the dirty deed and didn't lift a finger to stop it. Further evidence that most cops everywhere like it this way.

Lmao I wish I could use that defense.

"Well if you didn't catch me on video, I wouldn't have been arrested!"

That video of me robbing your house was illegal! I was on private property, albeit not my own, and had a legal expectation of privacy! Since the only proof you have was obtained illegally all charges should be dropped and I intend on suing the homeowner for violating my privacy!

That is literally the defense these guys are trying to use.

BTW, whats their excuse for disabling the security cameras in the first place, what possible necessity could they have from a law enforcement standpoint?

They always claim that it is for security because someone could be watching them via the cameras from a remote location. They argue that those watching them could be tracking their movements for a surprise assault. Which is utter bullshit and has never actually happened before.

The real reason is that they don't want to get recorded being assholes and breaking laws that they enforce. Whoops.

NO, Ackmed said it's only a few bad apples and there isn't anything to worry about. The system works fine.
