bah! Amazon.com just opened a site for Canadians (amazon.ca), but it doesn't sell anything but books, DVDs, and music..

meanwhile I check the Amazon.com site to see what they have, and I see an offer for iRiver's ChromeX.. does that mean they also have the SlimX????? bah! I want one. not only that but I see they have The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings on DVD already (FINALLY! I've wanted that for so long), but it's not on the Amazon.ca site AFAIK... sheesh..

EDIT: nevermind Amazon.ca has the Lord Of The Rings listed, both stores begin selling it on August 6th. and the SlimX is available at Amazon.com (lucky bastards!). I wish I could get it, if only I could sell my RioVolt SP-250...

As ususal, you're being an idiot. I don't have an audigy at home but I do have one in my machine at mudshark studios. I used it for that review. Remember? I really wish you wouldn't drag irrelevant info from one thread to another. It's called neffing.

No, no you are the IDIOT for lying and not being good about it. I see you just edited your 'My System'. Too late FAN BOY, I already saw it. As for neffing, is this yor original thread? You are not even smart enough to know what neffing is? You should know, neffs are the ones who post useless info (like making links to their websites and making it appear as fact and have the ego to do it).

Nuff, said, FAN BOY

Hope you guys and gals held out for the deal on the TB SC at CUSA this week for $50.

I just bought the SC this evening and haven't opened it yet. This is going to replace a MX300 that has been in my main system for some time now.

I'm just curious. For those of you comparing the sound quality of these different cards, what differences are you hearing? Better staging? Sweeter highs? Tighter bass? I'd love to hear some adjectives describing the sound quality rather than people simply telling us that one card sounds better than the other. What sounds better to you about these cards?

If driver support is the only issue's making one card better than the other, I'll just stick with my MX300. The going has been bumpy since Creative drove Aureal out of business, but thanks to the XP drivers, this card really works fine and still sounds pretty great for a commercial pc sound card. I bought this SB TC tonight because of the outstanding price and because of all the good press that I've been hearing. I just want to be sure that this card is going to sound better than my MX300 before I open it up and commit to it. I could spend this $50 elsewhere if it's not going to make much of a difference.

Anyway.. Let me know what you think? Give me your impressions and describe to me the best that you can about why you like a certain card over another.

Hey Sal, I replaced my MX300 first with an Audigy (the drivers were, ahem, problematic) with a TBSC and the difference is noticeable - the highs are cleaner, the bass is better defined, the noise level is a little lower (the MX300 was notably quiet for its time), and it's 6 channel card and has a digital output.

Whether it is worth $50 to you is something only you can decide. If you have it connected to a good stereo system, then it is worth it. If you are listening through $20 speakers, then maybe not...

Thanks Workin'. Small world, eh? I think I will keep the TB SC at this price.

Thanks again.

those of you with the santa cruz, do you have winamp set to directsound or waveout? I am using win2k with the latest driver on the web site, and directsound sounds terrible. I used to exclusively use the cross-fading directsound output with my cmedia sound.

I could never get DirectSound to work in Win2K with WinAMP and the TBSC. Waveout works fine so I've never tried to resolve the problem.

I am in the market of getting a new soundcard.

I only use it for MP3 and games and DVD, nothing else.

I am getting kind of confused here. Everybody here favorites the SC but the reviews says something else,
like here forinstance.

What to do here??

Help me out ..

Cheers,
SnoopyDog

edit for spelling

the one deciding factor for me in choosing between the GTXP, Santa Cruz, and Acoustic Edge is that I hear it is the only one with Linux support. Otherwise I would be searching for an Acoustic Edge instead (I don't think I need the breakout box of the GTXP).

does anyone in Canada know of a store with the Santa Cruz that will ship it somewhere?

I could have sworn that I saw the Santa Cruz at EB in Canada one time. It was a bit pricey I thought, but I had a sound card that works good so I didn't get one. You might want to check to see if they still have them or can order one in for you.

LOL... that was me last week. My onboard sound (RealTek on Abit IT7) also sounds like crap (or just not up to par). I bought my SC from CompUSA last week for $49.99 retail.

SC is a great card! The only thing I want is to be able to do 4 speaker out and VersaJack Headphone out at the same time. The software switch makes it inconvienent. Other than that, everything is great.

I have trouble believing that there is a NOTICEABLE difference between SC and Live Value. I have a Live Value! and Klipsch v.400 and listen to MP3s. Is the difference that big??

It mostly depends on the quality of your mp3's. If they are good quality, and your hearing is not defective, there is definitely a noticeable difference. If you only listen to 128kbps mp3's that were encoded with Xing (i.e., AudioCatalyst), then you won't hear a difference.

Friends, aside from the MP3 CBR variable, another factor that would affect sound quality is the software player used. Many agree that the "built-from-the-ground-up" MAD decoder of CoolPlayer is slightly "superior" to the WinAmp + MAD combination. There is even a another WinAmp plug-in that completely bypasses your AC-97 sound card's infamous 48Khz resampling algorithm through the use of CPU cycles, thus improving sound quality as the program states.

Cheers,
Biggs
