Seems like an awesome deal. The Sanyo sets do not look too bad at Walmart.

That said, I will file this under "you get what you pay for". With that said, where else would you find a 42 inch 1080p TV for that price? I will also file this under "Paris Hilton", meaning at first you might worry, but the more you think about, it really gets you going. You just know it will do the job and when all is said and done, if it breaks, you just throw it away and let another man enjoy it (her).

I recently bought the 46" Sanyo when they had it on sale for $798...the colors were horrible and forget about watching a dark show...shadows were splotchy...took it back and got a 50" LG Plasma instead from another store. Much happier now

I got a 50" LG plasma on sale @ BB for $999.
I'm pondering taking it back, though. Sometimes the picture is great...sometimes "blocky".
Granted it's only a 720P & I realized that when I bought it.
I've found a Hitachi 1080i for $1099 so I may get it.

I went and got the TV today for the price protection when it goes on sale. I still have to calibrate the TV. At 850 the TV isnt worth it imo but at 500 so far it seems like a great deal.

I just returned from Walmart and out of curiosity peeked into the electronics area to check out this Sanyo set. There was only 1 Sanyo ''42 1080p LCD (so I'm blindly assuming that this is the model that will be for sale.. and the picture looked average next to a Vizio and Sony all receiving a Blu Ray feed.

Seems like a decent deal at $598.

1. I hope it seems like a great deal at $598.
2. Does Walmart have price protection?

I read it online and then asked the group of them when I was there and the manager said yes they do have it. I asked if I had to bring in the item as well, and she joked "only if we hate you" but she seemed pretty knowledgeable and besides its walmart worst caste you can load the TV back up and return and rebuy at the price.(a PITA but at least you get the deal)Also on the slickdeals forums these have a year walmart exchange policy being there sanyo otherwise most TVs are 90 day return. They may not be in stock come saturday.

Also I loaded up Black Hawk Down with an up converting DVD player. I didnt calibrate nothing and really the only problem I had was the blacks were too black but again I didnt calibrate anything. Other then that I was actually very pleased watching it and I am anal about quality. You can see the backlights when the screen is blank but godamnit its 600 for a 42. Like I said before at 850 id look elsewhere for 600 you cant go wrong as a main TV or a bedroom tv.

Can you link that or tell me where on the site? I looked and looked and couldn't find it.
Thanks!

Aren't those numbers "fudged" sometimes by various manufacturers to make their product look good?

Ok actually created a login to respond to this.... normally I just read.

I work at Wal-Mart in the electronics dept. for many years.

I personally own 2x lcd hdtvs one of them a sanyo and i regret it.
The menu system blows. Most tvs have 7 or 8 picture shapes and they name them things that make sence like panoramic , 16x9 , superzoom. Not sanyo. You get 4 shapes and there named one two three and four (and 2 of them are useless). Also there picture quality is just NOT as good as sony philips samsung or vizio for that matter. They also dont have color temperature settings just RED and GREEN. Now as to quality. I have no issues with sanyo dying really i plain dont get many back because it died ( i get them back because they dont like the picture). So from a quality standpoint i have no issues with them (unlike RCA dear god run for your life).
Having said all that i cannot recomend this at 600 dollars , we have a vizio 37 for that price and its a far far better picture, and its avail at that price everyday (so no trampeling necessary). Heck u should have bought the sony 40 we had last week for 798 now that was a nice tv.

ok as to the contrast ratio question ive seen in this thread. Contrast ratio is TOTAL HYPE.
Ive read that a million to one is comming, meanwhile the sony 40 in at 1500 to one STOMPS the Poleroid at 5000 to one.

I think that million to 1 claim is already here. I've heard tv commercials advertising models with that ratio but I can't remember the manufacturer.

Contemplating whether this is worth a Black Friday-esque campout. My parents need a new LCD HDTV for the guest room and this pricepoint is hard to beat, say what you will about the brand, quality, blah blah blah.

Am thinking minimum 2 per store is a good and bad thing; literally there will be at least 2 per store (no outright bait and switch), but is that it or will there be more? What about demand post-BF, pre-Xmas? I was at Fry's for BF and they sold out of their doorbuster TVs within hours; does that equate to less competition?

Should be interesting.
