4 gigs ddr 2 at stock speed.
Gigabyte ep35-ds3r
Sapphire HD 4830
Vista ultimate 64 bit.
PS is Seasonic 650 watt
HD: 140 gig raptor (boot drive)
Other HD: 3 western digital 500 + gig drives.
The problem:
It started about 3 months ago when my trusty 8800gts went south. Thought, well shoot it died, so picked up a cheap replacement card. The sapphire 4830. Installed, system ran perfectly about 1.5 months. It started with a system crash. Screen froze and had funny colors all over it. Restarted, won?t restart, boot into safe mode, reboot, ect. Finally get it working. This has been ongoing for 1 month now.
When the thing acts up, I see green : : : : : : : : all over post screen at start up followed by !!!!!!!! and other weird characters. If I let the boot go as normal, it WILL NOT boot up, however, if I go into safe mode and restart, green : are gone, If I just hit F8 to select different boot options green : are gone and it will boot up normally.

What I have tried:
Memtest86 for 10 hours, no problems.
Reformat drives with clean install of vista 64.
Re-install video drivers after using clean sweep to remove old ones.
Tried changing power plugs into video card.
What I am thinking:
Possible power supply? (I have ordered a new one and will slap it in, just because!)
Memory? But it tested good on memtest?
Video card bad? (but what could cause 2 cards to go bad in 3 months?)
Motherboard going south?
Other thoughts:
What could possibly change in the boot-up process from the initial post screen to where the boot options are displayed by pushing F8 that would let the problem become fixed?
I?m really not sure what else to try other then start replacing parts.
Anything else I should try? Any help is very much appreciated!
