You did take what I said the wrong way. It's the only explanation I can come up with to explain the hostility in your responses. It's OK though, simple communication breakdown IMO.

Cheers.

Hostility? My apologies if I threatened you, imposed harm or anything that a normal person would construe as hostility. (Yes, this is sarcasm )

I guess we have very strong opposing opinions of hostility. Definitely a communications barrier if you feel my posts have any form of emotion. That would imply I care, which frankly I don't.

Also I understood clearly what you said, but it isn't my job to ensure a company is successful. It's up to them to make me want to buy their products. At >$600, I refuse to buy it. [I'm pretty sure I said this already, oh well. ^_^]

Also, yeah. If it costed like >$600 I would probably just get a 7970 for <$300.

And sure, I could buy a $1000 card. But I think even the intrinsic value about thinking of yourself as a smart buyer would make the $500 saved more worth it anyways, regardless of how much money you can spend.

If its 512-bit I will pay up to 600$, or if everything else about it is perfect (>2560 SP's, 4gb+ VRAM, 1ghz+ core clock etc..) I would pay 650$ max. Ideally I would like to spend no more than 500$.

Railven, of course you care, else why express your opinions to others on message boards? If nobody cared, they wouldn't post. Just saying. There are no robots here.

Expressing your opinions and caring are two separate things.
I don't care if others love Avocados, im expressing my opinion that i don't like Avocados, i don't care if others like them or not.

What is the rumoured ram on the up and coming card? Is it rumoured have 6gb or possibly more? If Lightwave announce that it supports GPU processing with OpenCl then I might get it.

If AMD comes out with an ~3000 shader monster I'm interested, otherwise I'll be waiting for 20nm to upgrade.

Same here. Heck I'm due for a top end AMD card. I haven't purchased one since 5870. I skipped 6xxx and 7xxx. I might skip 9xxx as well.

I care only enough to fill the empty time between work related tasks. With my level of efficiency I guess one can infer I care, a lot, but at the end of the day outside of just the usual "my two cents" it really doesn't bother me where people choose to position my opinion.

However, for the record, stating AMD lost a sale to me if the price is >$600 is some how suppose to imply that I would turn around and spend >$600 on Nvidia is a really stupid assumption to make. That's all I really wanted to express.

I'm not sure if it's my itchy upgrade finger, but I currently have 2 5870's and an i5 2500k. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the 9970, as it seems like most other people have around the same span of an upgrade cycle.

I think I have a lot more benefits of going to one fast card rather than Crossfire though, which may add to my itch of buying the 9000 series. With a Quadro FX 4600 lying around, I could use that for PhysX as well as SoftTH on that one card since I have a 1080P monitor and 2 1280*1024 monitors.

I could understand if someone from the GTX 4xx/Radeon 5xxx era could wait another generation though, since a 5870 still plays everything on high and 2 5870's can still max anything that doesn't take more than 1GB of VRAM.

Pull the trigger? dont you think you should wait to see the card in action? i mean if and when it comes out? you dont know where the performance of this card will sit....... or how much it will cost....... or when its coming out. Not to even bring up, what the market will look like then.
But yeah.........

I think I will simply buy it. Last card I bought was my current 5850, and I am afraid it would't be able to feed BF4 well enough.
Also, I am closet AMD fanboi, so there's not much else I'd upgrade to. Not 7970, my PC deserves something better this time.

I'm with Octopuss. hanging on to my 5850 but i am contemplating an Nvidia 7XX when i upgrade my CPU.
i just don't like the 7XXX series power consumption when OCed.

in any case, i can fathom a 20mn 9XXX series...if released in October...2014.

Oh come on now. What you said is that they would lose you as a customer, not lose a sale. I can accept that what you meant was lose a sale, but that's not what you said. That was the communication breakdown. You still insisting that I interpreted it as lose as sale, not lose a customer, is where it went over your head, as I've stated otherwise. You stating things like it's the dumbest response you've ever had and it's a stupid assumption is where it turns into hostility. Does that make it any clearer? Can we move on now?

You've never heard that phrase before? Perhaps it is a localization issue. Losing a customer is a common phrase here mostly boiled down to an empty threat.

"If you don't accept these coupons you're going to lose a customer today." Then next day same person is in line. You made indefinite assumptions. Some how you inferred me not wanting to spend big money on AMD translated to I'd spend big money on Nvidia. I never even mentioned Nvidia but you felt it had to be mentioned.

Then you went on with your analogies of how industries lose money and AMD would be stupid not to follow suit with Nvidia in raising the price brackets.

Do you not see how our line of thinking differs? I'd love to buy a 9970 just not at any stupid prices AMD feels they can charge based on their competitors track record. I'm not their solution to their financial issues, perhaps others will rise to that challenge. Not I. Until they satisfy my needs they lose me as a customer...wait sorry...they lose a sale to me.

Not that it matters but I'm on the john on my phone so please excuse the typos

I've said that I now understand what you meant. I told you how I took it. You still proceeded to say it was stupid. I don't know what else to say.

As far as it being a local thing, I guess that would depend on where you are from.

I think we should open a poll. 20nm vs 28nm. There are indications for both. I was pretty sure with 28nm, then 20nm, then 28nm and now I'm considering 20nm again...

It would most certainly have to be 28nm. Although I'd like it to be the 20nm midrange card.

If you took it as me calling you, your person, stupid or dumb, my apologies. That was not my intent.

<Back to the subject>

I have no intentions to support either company with their, in my opinion, ridiculous pricing schemes. If AMD follows through, I will be sad, and I do understand these are rumors/speculation and more so that AMD is a faceless corporation and my broken heart would mean nothing to them.

My upgrade cycle is right around the corner, a pair of 9970s would be nice, but if that were to cost 1:0.5 to the rest of my computer - oh hell no! For me to even fathom this 1x9970 must equal 120% of CFX 7970 which if 28nm, not likely, but perhaps if they delay it for 20nm. Then I'd have to revisit my pricing limits.

When did a single next generation full node shrink AMD/ATI GPU provide 120% more performance vs. previous gen flagship card? Not since 8500 --> 9700Pro. You'll be waiting until 14nm generation I think if you want 120% of the performance of 7970s in CF for $500, especially since yours are overclocked too.

I am going with 28nm refresh on this one since RR said he wants to stay on existing nodes until it financially makes sense to jump to a new node. I can't see how AMD plans on having 20nm silicon ready for end of October in good enough volumes. Also, I am having a hard time believing AMD will beat NV by 6+ months to 20nm.
