So is the general consensus that if this card is not hackable, it's not worth it? I'd rather not take the chance and send it back then.

This is really tempting. It's definitely red PCB since that's the way it is advertised but I believe there were some Red PCB boards without the L-shaped memory that weren't hackable. I don't think Newegg would intentionally deceive anyone though. I'll consider picking this up tomorrow on payday.

They wouldn't decieve you but they may not know the signifigance, only being aware that red pcb is desirable.

check out this thread for some info on the hack and the googlegear fiasco

even better link for the hack is here.

anyone know what hacks are guarenteed on the L-shaped one or are they all a crapshoot? I heard that at the very least you can get a pro out of this card.

Ahh yes, the googlegear fiasco (C), everyone is still picking up the pieces from THAT one. I am tempted to try a newegg card to replace my googlegear card, but the checkerboarding is so faint on mine I dont think I will.

Is there any kindof poll out there for people to put there 9500 softhack results. What we really need is a percentage of working cards.
FYI, I got 2 from googlegear and both had artifacts, one worse than the other, both are done now .

Hi,
You have a Radeon 9500 card advertised on your website as having Red PCB, Powered By ATI Manufactured By Saphire Technologies Model#: RADEON 9500 128M RED .

This is interesting, but what I would like to know is the memory configuration. Is it shaped like the letter "L" and placed around the corner of the card or is it in a straight line, above the gpu. This is significant as there is considerable interest in a Red PCB with the "L" shaped memory configuration but no particular interest in a Red PCB with the straight line memory configuration. If it is a straight line config you will recieve a lot of RMA's. Could this be clarified on the web site?
Thanks,

Dear valued customer,

All the information we have is on our website. Click on the "See it" and "Product Info" links if our description is not enough. In the "See it" link you will find actual pictures we take to show you all items that come with that product.
So, ...

The picture shows the L config pretty clearly, so i'd say it looks very likely at this point that is what newegg is shipping out. Hot deal!

I'm giving this one a lot of thought and am very tempted. Mostly because soon these RED PCB versions will be completely unavailable. Looks like newegg.com has a 15% restocking fee. So at $160 if you return it that will be $24.

So to sum it up:

Looks like it's a 50/50 chance that it'll mod succesfully
If it doesn't you lose $24 + postage back to newegg.

Whatcha guys think?

Very tempting.... I need something that will run splinter cell better than my currente gts 2 is. However I think once the 9800's hit the shelves we could probalby pick up a 9700 pro for $249

Yes there is, as I posted a few psts up. About 60% of the cards hack sucessfully. I can't remember where exactly, but I think it was either Rage3d forums, or hardforums.

BulletPC, who was hacking these cards (like 100 of them) and then selling them, also reported about a 60% success rate.

The retailer where I found these SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 9500 128MB is Gameve.com
Disclaimer : I am not affiliated in any shape or form to the Retailers listed in this Post..Je je

DON"T BUT FROM GAMEVE. Although the site shows an "L" shaped config, I ordered from them and a black card showed up with an inline config. Still fighting with them to get them to pay for shipping back!

How does this card compare to a ti4600?

Before the MOD, the ti4600 kicks it's butt, after the mod, if sucessful, the 9500 easily dethrones it.

Newegg isn't your typical etailer. They stay very current on what people are looking for and make sure they advertise their products to let people know exactly what they are getting. A great example is when AMD releases a particular stepping of a processor that is much better for overclocking, Newegg has always advertised those particular steppings on their site.

My money is on Newegg being correct and they have a stock of the L-shaped red-pcb Radeon 9500.

By the way, I ordered mine from them a couple of months ago and I've had zero artifacts with the hack.

VIVO = Video Out, Video In
Video-Out = Allows you to view what you would normally see on your monitor, on a TV. (Using Composite or S-Video)
Video-In = Allows you to input another video source into your system (i.e. Game System, Digital Cable, VCR, etc...)

I love having my ti4600 and my digital cable rigged up togeather. Nothing like watching 500 channels in a window on your desktop
