did anyone read my post? I know alot of people that have returned their cards to allstarshop and enet, and if you read my post maybe it'll make some sense why it's getting harder to find a good modable one. I'm not sure, but the logic is there. Someone refute me.

also, yes, i agree that most moddable (L-shaped) cards sold at this point are probably returns from failed attempts (artifacts), so i wouldn't waste the restocking fee..

You can still the softmod and turn that into a 9500pro with 8 pipelines. The 9500pro will have 128-bit instead of the 256-bit of the 9700/pro, however.

 

I got mine a few days ago, it soft mods to 9700 but the memory wont go above 310 and even still i get very slight artifacting when running the chimp demo, I haven't installed futuremark yet. Mine has 3.3 ns infineon ram.

I would also get slight artifact usually in the lower corners of my screen and only in a few apps. I would say it was about 98-99% free of artifact and very usable. Anyway that was with the wizzard softmod. I recently downloaded the newest Omega drivers. Upon running the .exe it asks if you want the standard or the "hacked" driver, select the hacked and installation is a snap. And So far I have not seen a single flash of artifact. YAHTZEE!!! I really thought the wizzard method was a little cumbersome to say the least and took several tries to get it done. I really suggest getting the Omegas and being done in 2 minutes. And as far as the Mem timings not going above 310mhz... You're doing great! 3.3ns ram is supposed to do ~300mhz. 9700 pro cards come with 2.8ns...

Can't wait til monday when mine comes in. Hope this mod works. I'm kinda worried cuz the card I'm getting may just be someone else's return. I suppose a 9500 isn't so bad but it's missing 4 pipelines and 128 bits from its memory bus. Still I bet it's better than my GF2 GTS.

Yes, most people in anand suggest me to use Omega. It's better and easier. I, myself, use Omega for the driver, and use RivaTuner to tweak the core and memory. After changing the heatsink with vantec, I can get 324/303 MHz stable. Before, I can't even get the core running @ 310 without tearing. I also cut a hole on the side of my case and installed a fan that blow directly to the 9500 card. Later, If I found a good deal on VGA memory heatsink, I will put them on every memory chips (8 of them)

I ordered mine yesterday from Newegg for $146. Went up $9 today heh.
Got mine an hour and half ago. Softmod runs fine out of the box @ 355/300. The memory sucks.

You can still get one. Those Radeon 9500np's can overclock pretty well by themselves, and the results are pretty well, although no match for a Radeon 9700 or Radeon 9600 Pro overclocked.

where can you find the omega drivers with the easy install, where it just asks if you want the hacked drivers? Is all you have to do just say yes to turn 9500 non pro into 9700 pro? cause i'm still a little unsure how to do this softmod. wish me luck

Not much. I ussed to just install the nNvidia drivers to get away from Omega's annoying naming scheme on their drivers.
