I agree. No remote, no cables, etc.. That's too risky.

On the other hand, you can get PCI-E version of it by Powercolor at here for $ 65 shipped AR. So, if you have PCI-E mobo and PCI slots are full (because this day, you can only use 2 PCI slots if you are lucky! ), it would be a great choice.

Thanks OP. Perfect for a Media Center 2005 box - won't use OEM remotes anyway, and I can't imagine what I'd need cables for anyway - great deal.

This device is a significant step up in image quality, but bear in mind we're still talking about NTSC TV, so it's not incredibly good, either.

While I'm not certain about that, from what I've seen it seems fairly well supported. You very well may know better than I but I would stunned if there really wasn't any support. I already have a remote wonder so I wasn't risking anything, but for other people that may be a deal breaker. Also, just because it might not be there doesn't mean it won't. In my opinion the card itself is worth more than 52 bucks to me, thats all.

Any card with working Linux drivers should work with MythTV and other linux-based PVR software. Unfortunately, there is no current Linux driver support for the Theater 550, and while ATI has released some limited documentation and drivers for some of their older tuner cards, I don't think they plan to with this card.

I just got 2 open box items from newegg a scanner and x800gto that unlocks to x850xt, both basically in brand new packaging, with every accessory.

You must be lucky one. I got numerous (probably around 10 or more) open box/refurb from Newegg, and ALL of them were bare board/card only. Maybe I am unlucky one? I don't know.

I've gotten a few refurbs from Newegg also, and they've had all or nearly all accessories, including a video card that had all the bundled games.

I read a comparison between them and basically both these units were magnitudes better looking than themostly other s/w decoder cards. I believe the verdict was the 250/150 had better definition but the 550 had better color saturation. From the pix I thought the hauppauge had better color and def so I got it and have been pleased by it. (Thats pleased but not pleasured

Can you share a link to the comparison?

Which 550 was it that was compared?

I bought a PVR500, which is like a dual 150, and I'm not terribly impressed with it, but you can't beat the convenience (and the lack of a need to split my signal again).
