I just got my sapphire x1900xtx. Replacing a 6800nu on a ASRock 939 board. I uninstalled nvidia drivers, swapped out the cards, rebooted into bios, switched to PCIe as the main gpu, then started up the pc. Everything was fine for about 30 minutes. I ran EQ2 first cause that's my main game, plus it's a graphics beast. No probs there I was real happy with it. Then I tried HL2. Set everything to max settings and ran it fine at 1920x1200. Sweet! Next I tried Oblivion...
Oblivion noticed a new card and it reconfigured my video settings. I loaded into the game but then had to switch to 1920x1200 res. Once I switched I was asked to exit and restart the game. I clicked on Exit Game and then my computer cut off. It has not restarted since then. I tried to reboot and after 5-10 seconds got a quick 2-beeps code, then a steady half-second beep. It's been like that ever since. I think the psu is fried. It's a Thermaltake 500watt which I thought would be able to handle it.
At first things were at least turning on inside the PC - I can hear hard drives kick in, the cpu fan and video card fan all turn on as if it's gonna start. But I always get the 2 short beeps followed by a steady half-second beep from the motherboard. I reset the CMOS jumper but that doesn't help.
I swapped out the 6800 card back in, and things got worse. I plugged the cord in to the psu in back and got a loud whining beep for about 2 seconds which died out. I then tried to turn the PC on and immediately I get the same loud whining beep like a siren. Things seem to turn on inside but obviously something's wrong. If I leave it on, the motherboard still does the 2 short beeps and the half-second consecutive beeps. If I unplug the cord to the psu for a minute then plug it back in I get the loud whining siren-like sound for a couple seconds which dies out.
I'm gonna try another psu that used to run the pc with the 6800 card to see if it works. Im hoping it's the psu actually because that wouldn't be so hard to replace ...
Anyone ever had anything like this before?
