Ummm... welcome to the video forum. The 16pipe, 48 pixel shader r580 has been speculated and discussed for months, where have some of you been?
Would you say, as a consumer, that this sapphire spec sheet is misleading to the general PC consumer? Even if Sapphire listed it correctly saying "48 shader pipelines" instead of "48 pipelines", I think ATI is counting on the general uninformed enthusiast (yes, they exist as is apparent from posts in this very thread, as monkey has shown) to not know the difference. Benchmarks will speak for themselves of course, but in general, it would seem to be a marketing tactic.
it's legal. . . and much more honest than nVidia/AEG's Viral Marketing to our forum.
Thread title: Sapphire's X1900 Specs
it was in direct response to your comment. Markiting tactics are still "tactics" . . . nVidia's seems less honest . . . but that's to me . . . perhaps you like their viral marketing tactics and dislike ATi's traditional ones . . . so what?
and i thought you were ignoring me? . . . i haven't changed
technically it's 48 shader pipelines . . . Sapphire doesn't want to confuse the general public.
So, start yourself another thread about Nvidia marketing tactics. We are talking about the Sapphire X1900XT specs. As for my ignoring you, who better than myself can dictate what I do when I choose to do it? Just leave apoppin so the rest of us in here can discuss the Sapphire X1900XT specs. Or stay and discuss the topic.
And please don't speak for Sapphire unless you have proof that you work for them as a spokesperson. "Sapphire doesn't want to confuse the general public". This statement should only come from an admitted employee of sapphire, or one who has interviewed an employee of sapphire. Not from a regular AT forum member.
again . . . i will respond as i wish . . . and i was directly addressing you.
And you certainly don't speak for the entire forum in telling me how to "speak" . . . i know for a fact that Sapphire doesn't want to confuse their buyers or the GP.
If you have an real issue with their advertising - insteak of BSing on a Forum about it - why not complain to the FTC? Then you will do a real service if you are right.
i wouln't call it a huge backlsk . . . Sapphire sold 128Bit 9800ps that appeared to be right on the edge of mislabeling but 'made it good' with anyone that might have been "fooled"Originally posted by: golem

Wasn't Sapphire the company a way back that got blasted for selling a cut down version of a video card as the full version? Don't remember the exact details, but it was something like selling a 128bit 9800 as a full 9800 pro? There was a huge backlash and they ended up trading the cut down cards for the real version.
. . . so, yes.
Edit:
that "edit' turned into a DP :Q
once again . . .
i know for a FACT that Sapphire does not want to confuse the General Public
