I got to say, I don't spend much time thinking about Palin. But I can understand those that do, because, and this is the key you're ignoring, she didn't go away after her defeat. She keeps trying to grab attention and stay on the political stage, which is naturally going to result in people talking about her, no unnecessary fascination necessary.

She might indeed go away, but the attention focused on her is hardly only coming from the left. For whatever reason she's still popular among a certain segment of the right, and what they lack in numbers they make up for in volume.

It's also worth noting that, for many liberals, Palin is a great example of everything we dislike about the Republican party. Many of us, myself included, thought McCain was a decent candidate. He's certainly a Republican, but he's relatively moderate, reasonable, and above all, an intelligent guy who seemed like he would be good in the Oval Office. After Dubya, McCain was a candidate that had me at least thinking that maybe the Republican party wasn't half-bad, even if I didn't agree with them on all their issues.

And then along comes Palin, with more of the same stupid bullshit many of us despised about Bush, but cranked up to 11 in a way that made Bush sound like Aristotle by comparison. The incredibly fake-sounding small town, just one of the folks attitude. The uncompromising view of everything. The ability to turn not being engaged in the facts into an art form. And most of all, the ability to do nothing but spout poll tested talking points every time she opened her mouth. Palin was Bush with better hair and 50 fewer IQ points.
