Due to be made public within the next 24 hours. They are scheduled to make a joint campaign stop in Ohio tomorrow and some are speculating that the nominee could be leaked as early as after the laser light show in Denver tonight. Reports are out there that Lieberman himself has told Mccain to not pick him as it would hurt his chances to win the election and current guestimaters say Romney is the leading possibility this late into the run.

As the hours tick down, any think that any of the other possibilities could get the nod instead?

a nickle on pawlenti, or some other governor (he should really swing for the fence and pick a female - but certainly not carly)... i think that romney would be a good choice, but too much political baggage with religion and primary stances... make romney treasury or something...

I think he should nominate you Lupi.

I believe you could be a powerful voice making ads on TV lambasting Hussein as the false prophet.

Don't think it will be Romney.

Supposedly McCain and Romney had not had any talks or meetings in the last week or two which suggests that they are going another direction.

I'd like to see him pick a female, but there are so few good female picks that he may not do that.

my secret dark horse hope is Christine Todd Whitman.

I'm hoping it's not Romney, and I don't think it will be. looks like Jindal is 100% out since we may not even be at the convention.

really, I'd be ok with anyone not coming from the far right, though.

Whitman is not popular within the party, so give up that dream. Sorry.

It will be a pro-lifer, but hopefully a moderate pro-lifer.

And for your crazies out there being 'pro-life' does not make one a radical right winger, Harry Reid is in fact pro-life. So it is possible to get someone pro-life but moderate on many other issues. I think the best choice would be someone who follows the 'I am pro-choice, I just choose life" mentality. I.E. Someone who is against abortion, but does not want to totally outlaw it. I think the vast majority of Americans fall into that category and such a pick would be a good balance between pro-life and pro-choice.

Sarah Palin is the obvious choice if he's going for a woman; Kay Bailey Hutchison is another. Everyone in the GOP loves Palin but she's fairly inexperienced (insert Obama joke here), so I don't know if McCain would go for her. If I were a GOP operative, I'd be afraid of Edwardsing her -- she could have a bright future in the party, but once you're known as a losing VP candidate it's tough to come back from that.

I've been thinking it'll be someone boring like Pawlenty or Crist, but then I was saying Bayh all along for Obama and that was wrong, so what do I know?

I do not think it will be Romney or Huckabee. Both indicated, Huckabee especially, that neither has been vetted. So I think it will be someone other than these two. Personally, I like Sen Hutchinson, but that would make 4 Senators in the race.

I'd guess Romney. At least he looks presidential, albeit in a slimy, robotic way.

I do know why as they didn't go into the specifics, but some commentators I heard were talking about Hutchison as a very unlikely choice.

Pawlenty is doing a shitload of campaigning for McCain. He went into the hornets nest this week in Denver.

I'd like to see a woman chosen--it'd be about damn time the GOP finally joined the 20th century in that regards--but I hope even moreso that it is someone who is eminently qualified on their own without regard to their gender.

I don't know much about Hutchison except she is supposed to very smart, but a very underwhelming public speaker. She comes from Texas, which is already solidly in the bag for McCain so she would bring no additional electoral votes-- although she might solidify his support in the South and among women (especially older women). I think the fact the she is also a Senator, and would make all 4 entrants to this race Senators, makes this pick a little more problematic.

Only McCain will decide. He must make his decision in a week or so, but I suspect he will not make it in the next few days, he will take a page out of the Obama book, and build up the hype first, and milk a few extra days publicity out of it as speculation reaches a fever pitch.

But by in large, I think the VP pick will be harder for McCain than it was for Obama. Many smart picks will alienate some parts of the GOP base.

I think Romney would be decent, he's a great speaker, had a solid campaign and was just everything McCain wasn't.

Though, I have no idea if he's really what the Republican actually want.

I call Romney. Cmon people its the obvious choice. Just like Biden was for Obama. I'm sure the press will make it a giant event. if Romney is at home like Biden they'll camp outside his home, if not where he's staying. it'll be breaking news.

The idea of Hutchinson debating Joe Biden isn't all that encouraging, unfortunately.

Romney is who Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity want, they have convinced some of their followers. The real, working republicans do not want Romney.

I don't think so, and if it is, it is a huge mistake on McCain's part. Romney will be blasted just like Kerry was for changing his mind to whatever will work best for him politically at the time. The Obama camp and media will also have a field day with all the video of Romney and McCain slamming each other.
