My uncle in HK said they weren't really scared... like it wasn't really in HK, but a surrounding area instead.... hmm.

I've been excercising some paranoid vigilence towards this. Pretty much avoid large crowds of any kind and at home most of the time.

Have you guys considered the germ can absorb through our skin? meaning you don't have to ingest it. I'd be worried if someone sneezed and it gets into your eyes.

We have to be open to the possibility that this may be the start of an apocalyptic world to come!

It spreads so fast because of air travel. People are sealed up in a metal tube for hours, and if one person is hacking and sneezing it's likely others will catch it. Where are they going to go?

But epidemics have been part of history forever, and many experts say we're overdue since it's been nearly 100 years since the big influenza epidemic.

The number of 3000 is way under estimate IMO
SARS start from Nov last year, and it was like flu at early stage.
Chinese don't like to see Dr. unless is something really bad, like cancer, heart attact, arm get cut off...etc.
ang guess what in Guangdong, China the health environment is not that good, if HK has 300+ case, how could the whole China only got 700+? The number just don't add up.
HK is a major HUB for air traveller to Asia, unless you complete shutdown the Airport, there is no way to stop SARS to other part of world.
According to news source, 90% people won't even know they have SARS cause it just like flu, would you stop fly just cause you got a minor flu? guess not.

OK, I'm flying to vegas (from san jose) today, should this worry me? Vegas is a huge tourist place, so there are people from all over the world coming in. Flying to LA, then connecting to vegas.

Yeah, I heard about all these, don't know if they're rumours or true since it's been going around in ICQ and email messages from unknown sources. Wouldn't surprise me though since those are all the asian gathering grounds in the area nearest to the Scarborough breakout. Geez, I'm at school right now out of town, and even though exams will be over in about a month, makes me cautious just thinking about going home to all that.

Does this virus not worry anybody else besides me? I mean I'm actually scared of this thing, it's amazing!

Although there have been no deaths reported due to this virus, it's quite scary to think that something just mutated itself and can kill you.

Sounds a lot like Resident Evil.

I am not worry too much about it.
only very few % of peopel who got SARS actually die.
If you are in US, and you don't travel to Asia in past month or coming monthes
and dont have contact with person who recently coming from that area in past few month, chance to get hit is kind of small.
I could be wrong, that is just my 2cents.

This article mentions 3 people are believed to have been killed in Toronto by it already.

In regards to the other rumoured outbreaks in the area, the article also mentions that they're false, and that most of the infected people are health-care workers.

Quite scary. I hope it's not divine intervention/punishment.

Then again, I'm an agnostic.

Strangely enough, in america it's not that bad. Probubly because when we get colds, they're usually perty nasty, so we've got some strong immune systems over here. In Europe they're barely even getting head colds from this. I'm thinking its regional in its effects.

Im not worried. Theres no pandemic or epidemic that will be a result of this. Since its been around for almost 6 months its not nearly as big deal as other try to suggest. Its not that fast at spreading.

Just hope you don't catch it. I'm hoping and praying. I would even wear one of those masks but I would look so stupid and would definately scare customers away.

Yea, but I've a china trip planned for this summer, in 1.5 months :/ I'm spending alot for this trip and if i cancle now, will loose probably ticket costs as well and not be able to travel there at least for another 10 years or so I really hope it isn't that bad. I'm still debating if I should cancel or not. Gotta keep an eye on this thing.

Which part of China?
China is big place, current, it only happen at certain cities, if your trip don't go to those cities, you should be ok.
Chance to get hit and get dead, is very small.
If you travel to those city, make sure you got a mask "N95 cert?"
from that I read, unless you are 2 rows next to SARS in airplain, you should be ok.

Not sure about you (most likely not), but in Taiwan, if you purchase a ticket to fly to those area, you can get a refund 100% from travel agency due to this problem.

If I am you, I will take my chance. If is my time to go, it is my time to go................

Here is the deal... medical technology has greatly improved in the last 100 years since the flu epidemic. Even if you get SARS, there is at least 90% chance of survival. I'm sure that number will increase as detection and identification improves. With the ability to control fevers, administer IV fluids, despense oxygen, and generally provide a hospitable, clean environment to patients, I'm sure SARS will be controllable, especially coupled with the low mortality rate.

Personally, I would be scared if something like this was spreading that had a high mortality rate. As is, I'm not worried about it. Take basic precautions against getting sick. Wash your hands before and after meals. Do not share food, utensils, or cups/glasses with others. Do not kiss or make out with anyone you don't know know or that appears sick (college kids!).

A doctor interviewed on local news today said that SARS is not new - he said that it's Hong Kong Flu (this is just a link that I googled) and that because we're more PC now, and that we have more clinical information (even if not preventive measures) it's not called HK Flu.

I dunno. I'm not saying one way or the other, just passing on what I saw today.

I don't think SARS is just Hong Kong Flu. HK flu has been around for a long time (since 1950?...)

BTW, here is something new. Canada got 100+ SARS.
it that true? I have no idea, gut it was first result when I google for SARS
