SAS for desktop?

Newegg has a 15, 000 RPM SAS HDD for $200. The Raptor is $300. Seek time is 4.6ms vs 3.3 ms latency is 2.99ms vs 2.0ms. both have 16mb cache. Will a normal destop user see any benefits from these advantages (latency, seek time, and RPM)?

Another question....will we see any destop aimed motherboards with integrated SAS this summer? I am particularly interested in socket AM2 SLI.

Have seen it on some upcoming workstation/server boards but thats all

Still pricey to get a controller for SAS also

I know the cards cost alot, that is why I would want it to be on the motherboard. SLI with VGA silencers, an X-fi and a PPU fill up all the available slots anyway. In fact, my DFI is full with one silencer and a X-fi. No room for a second silencer nor a PPU.

Possibly on a workstation board with SLI but like I said I doubt it on a desktop board

Just like SCSI was never big on the desktop I really don't see SAS being big

The thing it has going for it is that SATA drives can be used on the controllers

Plus alot of people don't want to pay that much for a drive

Look at the 150 gig raptor for 300
$2 a gig isn't really bad but not the greatest
Than you have a 36 gig drive for 200
About $5.55 per gig
