Anyone compete in SASS Cowboy Action Shooting? There is a club near me and I'm thinking of joining. It would be a good excuse to acquire several cowboy guns that I've always dreamed of, not to mention the fun of dressing up and playing cowboy!
My local gun store has two brand new Uberti 1873 Single Action Hombre revolvers in .357 (so I could shoot cheap .38s) going for $379 each. I'm trying to convince myself that I don't really need them, but that's a good price for a pretty fair quality SAA clone. I don't have the money for a Colt, and the Hombre felt better in my hand than the Ruger Vaquero did @ $499.
Dang, if I ever get rich I'm going to buy out most of the Uberti Catalog. I've got no real interest in an AR-15 or a Glock, beyond them being good self-defense tools, but I sure do like old cowboy guns. I hope to own a single shot rolling block or high wall rifle in 45-70 someday, too.
I think my cheapest options for a CAS lever gun is something like a Rossi M92. Then I'll just have to find a double barrel 12 gauge coach gun to round out my competition set.
Of course, CAS shooting requires you come in period costume and adopt an cowboy alias. Luckily, I checked the database and "The Original Greaser Bob" from True Grit is still available.
