"Let's be clear: The anger in this state party has never been about me violating principle or abandoning conservative policy -- I'm one of the most conservative voters in the Senate -- the anger's always been simply about me not bending the knee to one guy,"

"You are welcome to censure me again, but let's be clear about why this is happening: It's because I still believe -- as you used to -- that politics isn't about the weird worship of one dude,"

Now how about when Trump was actually president?
If I were to be pedantic, I'd argue "not enough support for Trump" still implies there is some level of support for Trump, when 0 is the only correct amount

But either way, good on Sasse for standing up and not just doing so now that Trump is out of office

Sasse's problem is that he is stuck on a view of conservatism that is really classical liberalism and refuses to see that conservatism is really about traditional values and going back to the "good ol' days." And that as such, eventually conservatives were going to want to go back to the traditional value and the good ol days of the people being subject to the rule of an absolute monarch.

Imagine:

1933 Germany Dachau was just being built.

Goebbels has just declared Der Fuhrer has done a fantastic job controlling covid -19 (only 400,000 dead)

at the same time reminding the the German people that only the party can bring you prosperity and secure your constitutional rights.

If you lived in Wolfburg (Kansas), what would your action be?

Sasse is less than useless. There is not a single vote he took against Trump or his nominees. He literally supports all of Trump’s policies and nominees but just does not like the way Trump exposes the Republicans as the racist disgusting insurrectionists that they are. GTFO.

"You are welcome to censure me again, but let's be clear about why this is happening: It's because I still believe -- as you used to -- that politics isn't about the weird worship of one dude," Sasse said in the video. "The party could purge Trump skeptics, but I'd like to convince you that not only is this 'civic cancer' for the nation, it's also terrible for our party."

Ugh, I wish the trumpinistas could be purged. I can deal with Republicans that I disagree with on almost every policy. I can't deal with mindless idol worshipers.

Yup. For example, this:

Kansas wants to pass an official resolution saying what a great job Trump did with COVID when 400,000 people died on his watch.
Not shocking it’s the same legislative body that tied the governor’s hands early in the pandemic. Their biggest issue is not enough people died and some counties still have mask mandates.

The state health order says that masks are required unless the county votes to opt out. Many counties voted to opt out because mandates are anti-freedumb. But making them go on record to opt out is evil tyranny.

That drug called Trumpanic was/is very addictive to the Repubs and after four years of abusing that nasty nasty debilitating drug, the party that's afflicted with it is now experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms.

Many of them so addicted to it, they'll never recover from it. That drug gave them false hopes, freedom to express their pent up racism, to express their religious zealotry, their hate for America.....it also gave them paranoia and contrived reasons to hate and fear those that wanted that drug off the streets and back into that golden gilded cage from whence it came or option two, a cage that us taxpayers would have to maintain.

Sasse, by way of his openly displaying his disgust for Trump implicated in an accusatory pointed finger kind of way a despised refrain that any addict would hate to hear: "I told you, I told you guys to lay off of that drug!!" and of course, no addict would ever want to hear that, right? So what's an addict in denial to do about that?

Well, the Nebraska addicts did what any drug addict would do: slap that pointed finger away and go on craving, of course.

Yes, while it's nice that Sasse occasionally says mean things about Trump he had four years to use the considerable powers of office as a United States Senator to, you know, actually do something about it. He declined.

You mean like to convict him the first time around? Sasse doesn't like the stench the GOP gets from the crazy. He has done nothing to distance himself from the policies of Trump or the crazy base. He just wants them to be less visibly crazy.

Hell, Fox can't even figure out what Republicans believe in. Nobody's in control of the talking points.

I think Republicans are confused. Ultimately the whole point of the party is to push trickle down. But they can't run on that anymore because everyone knows it's a fraud. So it's either shut down the party or latch trickle down to whatever crazy train is going by.

this is the same state that under Brownback went full trickle-down so much that they crashed the state economy.

Republicans have giant lizard brains, and no mammal brain.
they only think with their survival instincts. they cant comprehend the larger picture.

same with their voting base.
