They are due out yesterday but it won't matter as it's the same boat that PATA 's in (ie.ATA66/100/133 doesn't peak out) . Even the peak transfer rate for 2 drives in RAID 0 with Raptors drives is still less than 150MBps peaked which is what SATA150 runs on a single line.
actually, I have hit around 148 mb/sec with my dual 74GB Raptors in RAID 0. Almost pushing the 150 mark. THe best thing of SATA300 will be native command queing
You can only get data off the platters so quickly... some of the best performing drives are up around 70 80 or 90 MB/s... much slower than the communications link (ide, sata)
The common maxtor and WD and stuff usually do 40 to 60MB/s at best
yes, and it will be a while until they are able to fully use 300 mb/sec, especially since my raptors are outperforming even scsi drives. Let along SATA 600...
Lou I wantem too and suspect Seagate will be the 1st out of the gate...not to rain on your Parade RampantAndroid but even if the Raptors are benching @ that speed they are still under 150 and in RAID0 it would be 150x2 (300)...if you compared it to the new SCSI's running the same (RAID0) you are no where close but great for SATA
