SATA cable for DVD-R drive

Stupid question from someone who doesn't know much about computers:

I just got a Lite-On SH-16A7S-05 drive. It came with no instructions and no cables (from Newegg).

My previous drive was a Sony which died on me. It used IDE cables.

I'm assuming I need to get "SATA cables"? Are these one size fits all, or are there different types for different pieces of equipment?

I'm assuming that one end fits into the drive and the other fits into the motherboard. If so, will my motherboard take it? I have a Dell Poweredge 400 SC.

According to this site(http://www.poweredgeforums.com/showthread.php?t=8), your motherboard has SATA connections, so as long as the BIOS supports it(and I don't know why it wouldn't) you should be good to go.

The SATA I data cable is pretty standard. Some come with one end at a 90 degree angle for tight spaces.

In case your PSU did not come with a sata power cable, you'll need an adapter similar to this:

Other than that, you should be good to go.

Thanks for the help guys. I got the SATA cables (data and power) and hooked up the drive. But my computer does not recognize it.

I also had a CD drive that had been hooked up as a 'master' (with the old DVD-R drive as 'slave'). I thought that might be the problem so I disconnected it. Still, my computer does not recognize it.

When I plop in a DVD, I hear it clicking and whirring, but I can't get the computer to recognize it.

Any thoughts?

On further exploration, I fiddled with my BIOS and got it to work. Again, thanks everyone for their help!
