My board a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L is from 2007. It has two SATA connectors on board. They indicate 3Gb/s standard compatible with SATA 1.5Gb/s standard.
Are they up to todays standards or are they slower?
They are SATA2 ports, with a max of 3.0Gbit/sec. The newer SATA ports are "6G", 6Gbit/sec.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that board should have four or six SATA ports.
With the HDD in your sig, you wouldn't see any difference regardless. It's important to understand that SATA port capabilities don't speed up anything, they simply have the possibility of limiting your speed based on the capabilities of your HDD.

For the most part, an SSD on SATA 3Gbps will serve you well enough, especially if you're upgrading from a HDD. The difference between SATA 3Gbps and 6GBps won't be nearly as significant.
SATA 6GB/s is the latest standard, and as such it is nice to have if you have the hardware that supports it. With that said, you can use SSDs with SATA 3GB/s.
