SATA CD/DVD burner

I would like to replace my old IDE CDroms with a single SATA CD/DVD drive, problem is, my friend says that alot of motherboards don't support these.

Does anyone here with experience working with SATA cdroms know if this is true, and if so, which motherboards DO support it?

I'm running a Plextor 716sa on an Asus P5WD2 Premium board and have never had a problem with it.
