SATA disk - need help

I'm trying to install a single SATA harddrive, specifically a 250GB Maxtor 7200RPM SATA drive on an Soltek motherboard, model SL-K8AN2E-GR.

The drive shows up in Setup when I enter the BIOS, but does not show up when the SATA/Raid controller looks for it. I've tried a number of combinations:

I've set the SATA/RAID jumper (J2) to on to enable it. If I switch it, and I can't remember which, but on one setting it won't show up in the BIOS, and the other it will.

Even if the BIOS finds it, the SATA bios screen says there are no drive, but if I go into the RAID setup (F10 I think), then it'll either show up or not show up, depending if I've got the J2 set on or off.

The Maxtor boot CD doesn't do me any justice either, it only detects my EIDE harddrive.





As a side note, I also want to point out that FireFox will not load on my system anymore, it instantly crashes, nothing loads, nothing comes up, just the Netscape Agent pops up and says it crashed. However, Mozilla works, anyone know what might be up?

Windows XP /w Service Pack 2, v.2096

Can you hear the HDD start spinning up. Make sure you know it turns on with the rest of your system, if it doesn't you might have some power issues.

Also in your BIOS (not only on the M/B itself) check to make sure RAID/SCSI/SATA is enabled.

If it is SATA it SHOULD NOT show up in the sytem BIOS only in the SATA RAID bios.

Okay, I checked my BIOS, here's basically what it's saying:

Under the auto drive detection thing it lists:

IDE Channel 0 Master [_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500A]
IDE Channel 0 Slave [ None ]
IDE Channel 1 Master [WDC WD2500JB-00GVA0]
IDE Channel 1 Slave [ None]
IDE Channel 2 [ Maxtor 6Y250M0 ]
IDe Channel 3 [ None]


Under Integrated Periphlers, IDE Function Setup

IDE RAID - Enabled


Everything else is Disabled.



I did change something, I shut the Promise chip off, now something is different. When WindowsXP started, it loaded a RAID driver, and it turned on the RAID for the SATA channel my SATA harddrive is on, and when Windows loaded, it has a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on my taskbar, when I clicked on it, my SATA harddrive is available to be removed.

Is my SATA harddrive now on a RAID with my IDE drive...?

Okay, after a few other tweaks it's working, it's being properly detected, but now I have a new issue:

What's the best way to set the drive up? I was gonna use MaxBlaster3, which came with the disk, but it only let's me make a 14GB partition, the drive clearly has more, which is shown in the program, but it won't let me set it up.

Any suggestions?
