Sata drive problem

I installed a new video card and now basically my sata drive isn't recognized properly anymore. When I start up and its detecting the drive(sata raid controller screen) it will list the hard drive but it says "invalid device" "Press any key to continue" "Ctrl +S or F4 to enter raid utility". I loaded up a boot cd and loaded the western digital tool and it says the hard drive is fine. I changed basically all the settings in the BIOS and couldn't get anything out of it.

I moved your thread to the correct forum and fixed the spelling of your title.

Are you running a onboard RAID array? I'd double check those settings to make sure they're configed correctly.

What are the system specs? Motherboard, video card, power supply, and hard drive?
And what video card were you using previously? Is the hard drive detected in BIOS correctly?

I would first check the cables & power. It's possible that during the installation of the new video card, something got knocked loose. Remove the power calbe to the hd, and put it back. Grab a different SATA cable, and use that in case the cable possibly went bad (which does happen). Also, try using a different SATA port if none of that does anything.

First and foremost you have to get the hd visible in BIOS, because you won't get anywhere until that happens.

Ok. I rechecked all the cables and put a new one in. I also tried a different sata port and got the same error.

Do you have another SATA hard drive to try? It sounds like the hd is bad. Unless there are any specific problems or incompatibilities between that configuration.

i think it its only a configuration problem. I can acess the drive using hirens boot cd and western digitals hard drive utility. It says the hard drive is fine shape.

Re-setting the bios can't really mess up the drive, only can mess up the bios settings..if you have raid disabled, you shouldn't be seeing any raid screens during bootup. There is likely a setting that is still wrong in the bios. If the Hirens boot CD and western digitals utility can see the drive..the bios can see the drive. Most likely the drive should be set to IDE mode in the bios, the other options being raid and AHCI. You probably have more than one hard drive controller, so you might have disabled raid on one, but not the other.

Agreed, this sounds like his problem

Which SATA port is the drive connected to? If it's on one of the SATA_RAID ones, try it on the ones further to the right, such as SATA1.

The A8N SLI Deluxe should revert to "IDE" mode after a reset, and has no AHCI mode, so that simplifies things a little.
