SATA drive

I'm trying to install my new Raptor HD and this is my first SATA drive to install....

I got the following cable (see link below) and installed it and I put my legacy ata power into the drive......the computer knows the drive is there....but I cant make it appear in windows install to install on it..

What's going on? Do I need another different cable?

I'm running a K8T Neo Mobo from MSI. Integrated SATA.....when I boot the promise SATA message says "Bios not installed" I can't find them either....

You need to install SATA drivers as the Windows installer screen goes through.
I think you press F6 during the blue loading screen as the Windows install starts, and install the SATA drivers that should have come with your mobo, then Windows setup should detect the SATA drive (IIRC).

What if I don't have the disk anymore..........uh oh...

nor do I have a floppy drive.....

I believe you can use a CD as the media to load the drivers. You could download the drivers off the internet & burn them to CD.

OR (If that doesnt work)

You could install Windows on an old IDE HDD and install the drivers then use the HDD manufacture software to install & copy over the content from the old IDE HDD to the new SATA HDD.

I have my IDE HD in as well....

where would I download the files?

If the SATA controller is on the mobo then from the mobo manufactures website if its an addin card then from that manufactures website.

i must be doing something wrong...i downloaded all the SATA stuff and it still fails to work...

I'm not sure but could it be that the SATA HDD is plugged into one of the SATA RAID connectors instead of one of the primary SATA connectors?

Also check your BIOS to ensure that any settings necesary to boot to SATA is enabled including the SATA controller.

my bios is fine...whats a SATA raid connector vs a SATA HDD connector.

Well what I'm saying in that statement is that there is a possibility that there are 2 chips being used 1-SATA RAID controller & 2-SATA controller. They may not be the same chip and therefore if you connect the HDD to one of the RAID connections instead of one of the connections ran by the SATA controller than this could be your problem.

You might also consider updating your BIOS if its not already up to date.

You can install a fresh Windows install to a SATA drive right? F6 then load in the drivers and carry on with the Windows install right?

Yes thats how it should work whether you use a floppy or CD to load the drivers.
