SAMSUNG Black 20X SATA DVD Burner

$24.99
free shipping

This is the hottest deal yet for a SATA burner. Fark! I just bought a spare one for $27 without free shipping from Newegg (but cheaper shipping as I ordered multiple items). May have to stock up at these prices.

The wonderful Anti-Virus program Nod32 v3.0 (1year) is only $25 more ($50 total) with this combo too.

Nod32 v3.0 is $39.99 by itself normally from Newegg.com and it sells at Microcenter (Overland Park, KS) for $49.99 typically. Free shipping on the combo too. Nod32 by eSET is an excellent, low memory footprint, proactive anti-virus program.

I needed the Nod32 package for my Dad and a SATA burner for me, so it worked out well for me.

In for 1.. thanks... I am getting all kinds of stuff that I don't really need today.

I don't need any memory either, any good deals around?

Are you sure your not sorting reviews "by lowest rating"?? When sorting by date, I see no string of bad reviews/burners...

I have a few of these, and they are my favorite right now.
Yeah, I don't know where he's getting the trend of bad batches from - the reviews look perfectly fine to me. I still went with the slightly more expensive LITE-ON from that newsletter ad over the Samsung though, for the Lightscribe feature.

sorry dudes, like jim said I "sorted by lowest ratings", just discovered this mistake, coming back here to tell all who got the wrong info by me. Looks like this drive is doing fine. But still need to be vigilant :]

nyker96, I really do not appreciate the amount of time I have spent searching for the defective drives!

NewEgg reviews are about as helpful as an eye full of salt is when it comes to making a buying decision. Most people that post a negative review are blaming the hardware because they either :

A. Don't know how to set it up

B. Didn't make sure thier stuff was compatible with the hardware before making an impulse buy

C. They can't read

or

D. They're just plain idiots

I've bought sooooo much stuff from the egg that gets low ratings there and yet I've never had a single problem cause I know what I'm doing, I've done the research and most importantly, I know how to read.

Oh, in for 2. 1 for my parents build and one for my broke ass cousin who wants to be able to load Crysis now that he went to Wal-Mart and purchased it before he knew whether or not his old ass DVD-Burner could read it, which it can't

Amazing deal!
I already have two optical drives for the my current project, but I almost ordered another one just 'cause it's a great deal.
Then I stopped to think - probably next month (or two) they'll have a similar product at the same price with added features, such as software, cables, and maybe lightscribe?

Hmmm, the only optical drive I've had die on me in recent years has been a Lite-On, a DVD burner that no longer reads/burns DVDs (but can still read CDs - go figure). Oh yeah, I also have a Lite-On DVD player (yes, standalone) that can play back DivX and such, and the drive inside it is failing. I'm not necessarily going to avoid that brand, but won't go out of my way to purchase it.

As for Lightscribe, if you use it, then that's great. I've always wanted to... but I know that I'd use it a couple times and then go back to using a Sharpie. BITD I used to print out labels and such...

Heh, I understand the feeling -- "burned once, not going to go there again". I had the same thing happen to an NEC DVD burner, one of the two lasers on it died and it was only good for DVDs from that point on, so I avoid NEC from now on. Guess we'll see how the new Lite-on does.

If you're burning CD's and DVD's all the time, maybe this isn't the burner for you. I had a VERY expensive Plextor crap out on me in 2 years. I now have a very quiet Lite-On that I got with ya'll reviews, and it's rock steady, I burn a couple of times a week, and I'm always playing off it. If it craps out in a few weeks I've had it for about a year and I'll be out about $30.00, and if I can, I'll get another one.
Get what you'll like $5,10 is nothing over the inconvenience of it's longevity.

I have an old NEC ND-1300A, that decided that it won't read the discs that it burns, so verify steps hang on dvd-burning programs. Yet the drive can still read DVDs that other drives burn, and other drives can still read discs that it burns. Go figure.

My Lite-On just came in today. Yay for non-DOAness! That's always a good start right? Teh Egg didn't do an inadequate job of packing either. The thing was wrapped in two sets of bubble wrap, plus the normal foam peanuts Egg always uses. I didn't get any screws at all though ...I usually get those even with OEM drives. Not a big deal, but still...

As for the drive, it's just as quiet as my other Lite-Ons. Now, I wonder how long it'll last. If there's one component in my rigs that I almost expect to have to replace at some point due to failure and not obsoleteness, it's my optical drives .

I am using this Samsung to burn stuff all the time. very fast and quiet and no problems whatsoever.

I wonder if I should try the lite-on w/ lightscribe that they also have on sale for $28 shipped.
