Well mine died today.

It kept dropping off the network so I'd power it off and back on and would be able to get to it again with no issue for a few hours at a time and then it just never came back up.

I'm going to try and reset it to see if I can't get it back but it's not looking to good now considering I didn't change a single thing on it.

Edit:

The reset did do the trick, I lost all of my settings though but at least it's working again.

I hope it doesn't do this anymore.

Edit2: And it's down again.

I'm noob in NAS setup. I followed directions on manual and I cannot proceed further.
Could anyone give me advice on installation?

What I have done is:
1. Connect the NAS enclosure
2. Run PNMD program, and it scans and detects my harddisk which is formatted as NTFS.
3. I tried both static and dynamic IP address options
4. I cannot see anymore options w.r.t hard disk format (i.e., open share)

I'm using VISTA 64, could it be a problem. Others say that they can set up this one no problem.
I'm stuck at this step, any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, step by step instruction would be nice.

Yup. At least change the thread title. Every time this pops up, I think it's back in stock.

Who feels brave and wants to throw Debian on their SATA NAS?

Apparently the NAS-01G is part of the same family (uses the NH231 mainboard).

I haven't tried it, as I just found this. In any event, if anyone is interested in monkeying around - the keys to keep in mind when looking for projects is the IDE version is a Netronix NH230 mainboard, the SATA version is a Netronix NH231 mainboard. The same board is used by the LCS-8311 (Sata), and the Fujitsu SBNAS1 (Sata). The IDE version... well that's more readily documented on the OpenNAS site.

edit: I stand corrected - looks like this is the NH230 ATA version.

I went a little nuts with my NAS today. While it's not running debian (it runs Linux anyway), I now have managed to install CUPS, uShare, lighttpd, php, mysql and a few other things. Time to see if CUPS can host my printer to a 64-bit windows machine when I get home.
