SATA problem with ASUS A7N8X

I can't seem to get the SATA controller to recognize my drives. Here are my specs:
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe bios 1002.001 beta
AMD 2400+ @ 2.16
2x WD 60GB 7200 drives
2x 256MB Crucial PC2700
MSI G4-4400
Sound/LAN/1394 = NVidia
ACER DVD
Cendyne/Pioneer DVD-RW
OS W2K

I am trying to connect to the SATA controller with Abit converters. Jumper is enabled for SATA on the MOBO. The SATA BIOS is displayed, but no drives are found. The SATA converters are powered via the 4 pin connector. I have:

Cleared the MOBO bios
Tried a different brand HD
Tried a SIIG SATA converter
Tried 2 sets of SATA cables
Disconnected my IDE drives

This should be a plug-n-go operation, I keep thinking I'm missing something obvious, but it is baffling me as of now.

Any suggestion would be appreciated!

What are the WD's jumpered as (Master/Slave/Single)? Setting them to Single Drive has helped in many cases (on ordinary IDE controllers, that is).

I had the same problem:

XP 2400+
Asus A7N8X
Corsair TWINX 2700 XMS 512
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
(2) WD 800JB 8MB SE
Both of my drives are configured single ( thanks to reading it here)
I plugged the regular romex connectors into the drives and voila! RAID!

I am using the GALAXY SATA to ATA converters
