Sata problem with AV8 Deluxe..wont go past settup.

This is my second attempt at installing a 74gb Raptor on my Asus AV8 Deluxe. The first time I didnt have a floppy drive to install the Sata files so I sold it. In anycase this time I have a floppy and I am able to install the needed files and get past that stage. But I cant seem to get past the settup stage where it asks if I want to repair or press enter to install a fresh copy to the HD. It just freezes at that step and no matter how many times I hit enter...nothing. In the bios it detects the drive but nothing. I have tried to different drives and get the same results.

Can anyone tell me if I doing something wrong? Any help is appreciated.

No floppy files are needed for installing Windows on just a single SATA drive.
The bios setup, is where the settings to enable onboard SATA controller are located.
Try flashing to the latest motherboard bios. Then (with power cord unplugged) clear the CMOS, using the motherboard jumper (check with the instruction book for jumper location).

Turns out of all things it was a damn usb keyboard problem which works up until the point I noted. Switch to a non-usb keyboard and hit enter and it booted. Cant explain for the life of me. Thanks though.

"No floppy files are needed for installing Windows on just a single SATA drive" - I had a hell of a time installing one that I bought last year and everyone said I needed one. Now I wish I had known that before selling a new 74gb Raptor for half its price.

Excuse me?

You *need* the floppy for the drivers, specially for VIA chipsets.

How else will you get it to detect the SATA ports, then?

SATA, being only the interface between the HDD and the controller, do not requiere any drivers if newer chipset, as nforce3 or 4 and neweer VIA has the SATA device recognized by the controller, which send the info to the OS just like any other IDE devices. Onboard controller, like Sil or Promise need drivers to have the OS to recognized them, as they are only another device on the PCI bus, just like a sound card or or a capture card. There is no such SATA drivers, for SATA drive.. There is only controller drivers that you need to install if you want to use your onboard controller as a normal IDE controller or for your chipset controller and onboard controller if you want to use the controller in RAID mode. SATA has nothing to do with the driver... It is only a way to connect an IDE drive to an IDE controller..
