sata raid controller

i currently have an epox 4g4a+ and there is no built in sata support.

could i use this : http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=15-124-020&DEPA=0

or

its a sata raid card, but i only want to install 1 hdd for now (just to use the sata capability, not the raid)

is it possible to do this? or will it only work with sata raid hdd config.

basically i want to know if you can use other sata devices on this board like a sata dvd burner or a single sata hdd.

Yes, both the cards will support just using normal SATA, RAID is an optional configuration. Newegg also has a Syba 2-drive card. Any card based on SiliconImage logic should serve you well as they should also support the SATA optical drives that are now coming onto the market. On the Syba cards, you may need to check with Newegg to be sure they come with cables as the pix don't show any. If not, you will need to order one/some of those as well. It looks like the Link Depot one comes with one SATA signal and power adapter. You don't need a 4 port card unless RAID 0+1 might be in your future.

thanks alot for the response zepper.

i got an 80gig SATA drive as a gift and i saw that the sata controller, and the sata raid card were around the same price.

now i know i can get the sata raid card and look to expand to a raid configuration later on when i pickup another drive.
