Satellite Reign (spiritual successor to Syndicate)

I grabbed it a few days ago while it was still in EA.

First impressions are excellent. I loved Syndicate & Syndicate Wars and this feels right at home to those games.

Firstly, performance, its excellent, no hiccups. Graphics are top notch for this genre. Lots of fancy effects, global lighting, reflective lighting etc.

Gameplay is very smooth, the cover & stealth mechanic just works. Anyone who is a fan of the Bullfrog cyberpunk classics should really grab this title!

The devs are a small team of 5 guys.

I've been watching this game for awhile. The last time I checked it out was a few months ago and at that time it was still very incomplete, fully with crash to the desktop bugs being common. I hope it has improved a lot in the last few months.

Sweet! does it have a persuadatron?

Yes it does, but its limited to one of the agent, who's role it is to infiltrate, hack. One of his skill is the persuadatron. It is a CORE game mechanic because your agents die, they need to be cloned, everytime they get cloned they lose stats. So you have to always persuade fresh meat into the clone vats to give a fresh supply of healthy clones!

In combat they follow you and some of them pack a lot of heat (surprisingly how armed these civs are! lol), good for fodder or added dps.

The live build is pretty good, positive response on bug/crashes on the steam forums. Game works fine for me, no crash yet. I had one UI bug but it was fixed in a day 1 patch.

One thing that I miss, is stealing flying cars like in syndicate/wars. Was good times hijacking a police car, jam it full of persuaded civs and do drive-by shootings..

But it's been replaced with a very vibrant and alive open world setting. Definitely fans of syndicate, xcom, shadowrun will get their money's worth. Surprising it is so cheap TBH with you, AAA graphics quality, polished, cheap indie price!

Anyone else got it? Looking for as many opinions as possible! Great to hear the positive in this thread though so far. I really want this game but I did some googling and could only find reviews from last year when it was in Alpha and it sounded like it had a long way to go. Is it much better now?

Looks amazing though. Syndicate is one of the best games of my youth, and I played a LOT of amazing games. And this looks like a really impressive spiritual successor.

Read that it has as much in common with Commandos as it does Syndicate. Also read some negative reviews that said it is repetitive and a bit boring. Guess it's one of those games I need to try for myself.

It's one of the very few release Let's Plays on YouTube, but there's general gameplay footage around if you don't want the commentary.

All I can say is the game's a lot of fun, and the only shortcomings in my view is a bit unsteady pathfinding from the AI and that the landscape looks a bit samey. But the details are pretty awesome though, and the writing is very solid, if a bit on the background.

Cool channel! I notice your vid is pretty choppy, low frame rate?

I found disabling screen space reflection & SSAO nearly double the fps to 60 cap.

I already put 32 hours into Shadowrun HK! Love it (oh, can't believe ppl complaint about a role playing game with a lot of well written text & dialogue!!).

Cyberpunk and me goes well.

Next up is finishing a current work project, then I can get into Satellite Reign some more!

let them bitch; Silver if you want my channel let me know Honestly I put the dialogue = or greater than Witcher 3....more I play more I lean to greater dialogue; the writing is that damn good.

Witcher 3 only thing over it is voice acting; both half those little things to pull you into the world.

If Satellite Reign has similar stuff to SR:HK then will b buying it tonight

Sure fire away on your channel, I always like to watch let's play from other gamers.

SReign has a ton of text and a nice english female voice for mission briefs. It's more free-roam almost sandboxy than Shadowrun which is linear story-mission focused.

Both excellent.
