Plus 3 months free HBO plus a DVD player but you have to commit to a year at a $34 or more per month plan. Equipment is through Expert Satellite and service is through DirecTV.

As of 03/09/2004, Dish Network no longer airs MTV, BET, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon.

And no longer will air CBS-affiliated stations in Austin, TX, Baltimore, MD, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX, Denver, CO, Green Bay, WI, Los Angeles, CA, Miami, FL, Minneapolis, MN, New York City, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, Salt Lake City, UT, and San Francisco, CA.

Plus I think the pricing is better for DirectTv for the stuff you really want.

With minimal effort, you can make your own referral number. Then get paid to buy your own system. I just did.

The marketing for the referral system says ?Friends and Family.? So my wife signed up, and I bought it. That is ?family.?

Multi-room DirecTV, Tivo, a free DVD player, after the ?refund? the whole thing will be free. And with the hard drive threads here, I got a 160 GB drive (for $80), to replace the 120 GB in my PC so I can put the 120 GB in my Tivo.

How much do you get paid per referral?

Just a followup ... I purchased from expert... The products I ordered were not the products I received.
According to the website the Tivo should be a hughes HDVR2... I got a DVR40 which by practical terms it should be better as it is newer. It has added some features I didnt want, and is missing a few I did ... This would probably not matter to ur average customer ... but it did to me.

Since the HDVR2 is a little older these days, I even called before I clicked the submit button to verify that this was in fact an HDVR2. I was told it was.

I am yet to hear back as to what expert sat will do. I assume nothing as they would probably not be sending me a new receiver if they had something older in stock, as most people would want the newer product...

I did this deal, after a posting a few months ago. I couldn't be happier. The equipment came from Expert right away, the installer called within a day and by the weekend, i had dumped comcrap and was happily Tivo-ing all my shows. I would NEVER go back to cable. Oh, i got the HDVR2, i wish it was the newer one, oh well.

Still the best direcTivo deal i've seen.

My understanding is that the SD-DVR40 is the exact same box as the HDVR2, with a different case. This is also the situation with the Philips. They are all made in the same mexican facility. Spend some time out on tivocommunity.com to learn more--myths about the different tivo boxes are common--you might have been given some bad information. Unless there is something very specific that would cause you to be unhappy with it, you are wasting time and trouble doing an RMA, as the HDVR2 is going to be the same. Most of these satellite companies use interchange between these three reciever brands--they often will lean you towards a philips box as people like the silver case. The software is the same across the product line.

ive been around the forums and then some ... there are many minute differences between the models, the biggest of which is RID ... im glad thats impemented, it gets rid of the freaking pirates... but i have a hard drive pre hacked and ready to go into the HDVR2, which does require a different image that the DVR40... in the long run, the DVR40 is a fine box, its simply that i spent a lot of time preparing for my HDVR2, i odreded and HDVR2, I even called to verify thats what they send .... and then I get a DVR40 ...

u will see on the forums that they do NOT recomend using HDVR2 software on the DVR40 box... theres a minor difference in the version number

Also, have u seen these hughes boxes ? they look like total crap... if i knew i was going to end up with something aside from the HDVR2 i would have gone to best buy and gotten the phillips while paying $7 less

anyway sure the DVR40 will work, but thats not what i paid for

Looks like this deal is still valid. I look forward to the day when you can buy just exactly the channels you want and not all the crap. Wouldn't that be the deal?!

That sounds like grounds to cancel your Dish without penalty since it would be breach of contract, wouldn't it? (Not getting the channels agreed to in your contract).

Then again, I'm not a lawyer so don't take my word for it.

Cornivore, you would think that would be true but when you sign up you agree that they can change programming without notice. That never was much of a factor before but now you can see how it can play out. You sign up for a year contract (or two years) with big termination fees, two weeks later they chage all your 100 channels to home shopping and "Charlie Chat" and you are legally stuck with the contract! I pay money every month for the past four years for certain programming and they drop 20 channels just like that!

I'm a Dish customer and I'll bail the second I see a good deal on Direct TV with a Tivo, or a good digital cable deal. I don't know what they are thinking by failing to reach terms with Viacom. I'll pay a company who actually has the channels on the air as I think having loyalty to a frickin TV provider is ludicrous!

I tried to bail from Dish a few months ago, but I'm in a rural area covered by the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative so I am limited to a single provider, who won't even return my telephone calls/emails.

Thanks Congress! Ain't competition great????

not to start this as a dish network thread..but as for them dropping the channels, they didnt drop 20 channels. from the basic one its 6 channels(nick east/west, mtv, mtv2, vh1, vh1 classics, comedy central), top 120 is 2 more(noggin, bet), top 180 is 1 more(nick games & sports).

Now before i put any more here, i do work for dish..at one of the call centers. and majority of the people arent really that upset about it. the whole reason dish didnt renew the contract with viacom is because they tried to jack up the amount they wanted from dish. they told us it was 200mil additional to this contract. if dish pays it, your bill goes up. viacom doesnt care if you switch to directv, cable, whatever..they still get their money because eventually, everyone is gonna be paying the higher rates. someone will give in, whether its dish or viacom, the channels will be back soon enough. everyone is getting a $1(yeah, i agree it should be alittle more) credit, but thats pretty much counting on the fact that it probably wont be out too long.

gonna quit now because this is just a ramble by now, but dish has promos now that have no contract or commitment. and about it being breach of contract..it does say programming subject to change. even says that in the commercials in the fine print. what our info says, is that dish is monitoring the status of the outage. right now, the channels have been out for less than 48 hours, so they arent allowing people to cancel out their contracts. if it gets to be where the channels will be out for a long period of time, im sure they will start making exceptions. i'd say give it a week..if channels are still out in a week, then call and complain. either way, the people answering the phones(like me) cant do a damn thing about it. alot of us have dish too, we're missing the channels too, and are pissed as well heh

Dish not dropping Viacom. Parties have reconciliated on 3/10.

Except for the free DVD player, an existing DirecTV customer I know got the same deal plus his choice of 2 movie channel offers. He took both HBO and Showtime and affiliate channels.

sounds like jagg and duhh should do a trade and see if Expert is willing to foot the shipping
