SIGN THE PETITION HERE: http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/SaveSGA/

VISIT THE SAVE THE LOST CITY WEBSITE to find out more about what YOU can do to save Atlantis! http://save-thelostcity.com/

As we are sure you are all already aware, fans across the globe were hit on August 21, 2008 with the news that the very successful SciFi Series Stargate Atlantis would be coming to an end after its fifth season in January. You can view the official release from Sci Fi about the joint MGM and Sci Fi decision here at GateWorld who confirmed the news.

Executive Producer Brad Wright commented that "Atlantis is going out on top" reports Gateworld in a news article about a recent interview entitled "All Good Things?". One fan commented "Why fix what isnt broken?" and many agree with this.

Executive Producer also followed the lines of "All Good Things?" on his blog commenting that "Whenever a gate closes, a hyperspace window opens?" but many fans disagree and feel that the show has many more seasons of quality left.

From what we can tell MGM, SciFi and Stargate Productions are all in agreement with the decision, or at least that's what they are telling the public. They appear to be in the belief that we would much rather see a two hour movie and say goodbye to the TV Series which we have come to love over these past five years.

This site is dedicated to the fan campaign which aims to send the fans messages directly to those who made this decision in an attempt to get it reversed. We must band together and show our thoughts on the matter and show 'The Powers That Be' that the fans want Atlantis to continue in its current format?

And with over 4000 signatures on the petition in just two days this campaign is off to a great start - we just need to see it through and keep it up!

I can't believe they're dropping one of their best and most popular series in favor of bi-yearly TV movies... KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO THOSE SCI-FI/MGM executives!!!

No. SGA has never hit its stride, and has barely been watchable since the end of season one.

SG should have been done after the movie. Someone start a petition to counteract this one, even though they never work anyway.

Maybe if it was a "bring back Arrested Development" petition, but seeing as this show is in every way inferior to AD (simply because AD is AD) then I cannot sign.

Average for an episode those seasons...

In fact, the show was one of their most popular. They said they want to "end it on a high note" whatever that means.

Shens. SGA rocks (except for Ronan). Once BSG and SGA are done I will have no reason to watch the Scifi channel.

Are you kidding? Season 1 was probably the worst (relatively speaking).

One of the problems is that as seasons go on, salaries get renegotiated and go up, so even if viewership remains the same, profitability goes down. Still, considering the Stargate series is one of the best things that ever happened to Sci Fi, it is wierd to see them keep ending the shows when there is still a viable audience and a cast that still wants to stay with the show.

Time for a new Stargate. Perhaps a stargate positioned by a blackhole, that connects to another stargate on the other side of a whitehole, in an alternate universe.

Then the new series involves a group traveling through an array of stargates all through the galaxy, trying to find another blackhole that theoretically will lead them back to their own universe. Perhaps in this alternate, the humans are the ultimate bad guys.

Salaries? The actors who play Ronon, Teyla, Sheppard and Mr. Woolsey are lucky to be working. Only the McKay character has life outside Atlantis.
So unless David Hewlett wants more money, a lot more money, I can't see salaries as being the big issue.
I have heard the sinking US dollar is making it more expensive to shoot in Canada, so maybe the new series Universe will have simpler sets, etc and thats why they are cancelling.
Though, I think its a combination of the similiarites between Atlantis and SG1 and the creative team wanting to do something different.
Universe reminds me of a certain "five year mission to seek out new life..."
So maybe they are taking advantage of a certain movie that's coming out that will feature a starship that explores "strange new worlds" and "boldy goes...".

yep because Robert Picardo is pretty much an unknown actor... all those years appearing on a little known show called Star Trek: Voyager.. didnt do anything for his acting career..

There are also alot of other people earning salaries. The Directors, writers, SFX people, producers, etc... I don't know for certain that it had anything to do with why Atlantis was cancelled, but I do know for certain that it was a big part of why SG1 was cancelled. Ratings dropped some, but salaries had risen so much that the show was no longer profitable enough. I can't remember where I read that, but I did. I was just pointing out a possible contributory factor, not intending to declare it as the reason the show was cancelled.
