Dos anyone know how to save my emails if I want to reformat. I'm using win xp. Before, I would just print what I wanted to keep.

Which e-mail reader are you using? Outlook Express and Outlook both allow you to save your e-mails to a personal file folder (*.pst). Just go to File | Import and Export, and export everything that you want to save. Then, just find the files and back them up. Hope this helps.

Outlook express does not allow you to save your Email as a .pst

Assuming you are using Outlook Express, you can export your messages via the File menu > Export >Messages.

The location the messages will be backed up to is
C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{2A31FEFD-6C4-231R-9803-E3A999EB9}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

The long string of numbers and letters is likely to be different, but you get the idea

If you are using the full version of Outlook, then yes, a PST would be your best bet.

This little program works like a charm. I have moved my mail to diff comp, hard drives etc: many times with this. I highly recommend it.... saves all your folders, sent mail, incoming, drafts, your screen layout....

Just do a backup, save it to a floppy or whatever..save the program to another floppy/zip/cd, format install your OS..install the program, and restore your backup..

It's great IMO ...................... Oh yeah, it's FREE

OK. Since I upgrade almost every 6 months and like to keep my stuff; here is what you need to do

1. FOlder Options> View hidden files and folder/system files
2. Run a search for *.dbx files (these are outlook express and outlook files)
Note: If you have multiple identities in outlook express> make sure you mark the identity folder ,
so you know what goes where.
3. If you are running Outlook ,(as already sugggested) just copy the *.pst file and paste it into the later
installed Outlook folder.

Just remember *.dbx files are mail boxes . Make sure to know(if mult ident are being used) where they go and what they have in them. Just right Click and open with>Wordpad. It will seem like a lot of garbage , but just run a search for your email address within the box and if you find it, then you know which identity it is.

.pst files are outlook files, they are easy just replace the one file and boom
