A friend brought me his laptop when he stopped being able to boot into Windows XP. He was getting blue screens after the windows logo first appeared, and safe mode wasn't working either. Since there was no sensitive data on the drive, I tried first installing a fresh copy of Windows but the format utility hangs when it hits 6% completed, and after 15 or 20 minutes tells me it cannot format the drive. Are there any other options to get this drive up and running again?
