it was at a sunglass kiosk at the mall.
some guy with a doo-rag on his head and his pants barely over his knees walks over and picks up a pair of ray-bans another customer left on the counter.
pretends he's trying them on, seeing if he likes them, in a not very slick way, but anyone with half a brain knows he can't afford them.
as soon as he sees the attendant turn her head, he tucks them in his pocket and walks the other direction.

Why is his clothing relevant?

The same reason he mentioned the sunglasses were Ray Bans, or that he was at the mall - to provide more detail to the scene. Otherwise he could have just stopped at the thread title. :whiste:

I have a feeling this thread was created so that people can call him a racist, then he can come back and claim you are racist because the guy was white.

I had the same guy (could describe the same way you did, minus the doo rag) at Burlington Coat Factory about two weeks ago. From his dress and posture, I instantly assumed he was up to something.

Had a crumpled up receipt (flag one; possibly found it), and came up with 2 shoe boxes and some other items. Said he wanted to exchange one box of shoes for the other (flag two; possibly didn't enter the store with a box). Proceeded to exchange shoes, then the cashier ringed up the rest of his stuff, and when asked for payment (flag 3) he said can't you take the number off the receipt? "No," said the cashier, and then a round of "I gave it to a lady here..." stories. Long story short; he patted himself over and checked pockets for a minute before slinking out of the store saying he needed money for his car. Never returned.

Did I mention I'm white? Did I mention he was white?

I've lived in the worst neighborhoods growing up, and know about and can spot scams/thieves easily regardless of race. And yes, clothes like that are a warning sign; even if only 1 out of 100 wearing them do attempt something, if I was a store employee I'll watch everyone dressed that way. For me, it's more about their posture and actions, but I guess I'm racist against people with bad posture(?).

first off the OP is a racist.

and lots of people. that said in my younger days i was a shoplifter. like when i was 16 and in high school. i'm over 30 now, and i suppose i'm not particularly ashamed of this, lot sof people shoplifted at 16.

anyway i was a pretty geeky chinese kid. but let me point out a few things. its the ones you least expect, but you still need at least somewhat baggy pants. given i had no money for anything, you'd be surprised you can fit a 16 port switch into a pair of jeans if you suck in your gut well enough. you just look like you walk out of the store looking like are stuffed and about to take a shit.

anyway as a 16 year old i managed to do things like steal cpus right out of display model computers (you wonder why the drive bay covers are missing from all the used computers that are open box.....), palm iiis , isdn modems etc. caught up to me and well i got arrested at some point and that was not so pleasant. that said i never remotely dressed like a thug. granted i stole mostly computer things, but i think it was mostly because my circle of friends were geeks. honestly it was quite a thrill.

anyway if you watn to know the real shoplifters, they are the ones who stay in the store for like 25 minutes buying nothing and browsing . they are looking for the right spot to drag whatever they are buying to so that the angles of those black ball cameras are obstructed. that and women given they have giant purses , i mean how useful would a purse be to shop lift right?. see the thing is most of the store employees probably dont care its the security guys in the back who get paid to do it. no one wants to have to really move for a minimum wage job. shoplifting is sort of an artform really. want to steal clothes and they have an anti theft tag on them? well.. steal the tool that removes those anti theft tags, i knew someone who had done that.

If only 1 out of 100 people dressed that way attempt to steel something, how is being dressed that way a warning sign? That doesn't make any sense.
