and lots of people. that said in my younger days i was a shoplifter. like when i was 16 and in high school. i'm over 30 now, and i suppose i'm not particularly ashamed of this, lot sof people shoplifted at 16.

The fact that you're not ashamed of it shows that you are still a lowlife.

Whoa, is your horse on fucking stilts?

Dude got caught and paid his service to the community, you can't MAKE someone feel remorseful.

first off the OP is a racist.

and lots of people. that said in my younger days i was a shoplifter. like when i was 16 and in high school. i'm over 30 now, and i suppose i'm not particularly ashamed of this, lot sof people shoplifted at 16.

anyway i was a pretty geeky chinese kid. but let me point out a few things. its the ones you least expect, but you still need at least somewhat baggy pants. given i had no money for anything, you'd be surprised you can fit a 16 port switch into a pair of jeans if you suck in your gut well enough. you just look like you walk out of the store looking like are stuffed and about to take a shit.

anyway as a 16 year old i managed to do things like steal cpus right out of display model computers (you wonder why the drive bay covers are missing from all the used computers that are open box.....), palm iiis , isdn modems etc. caught up to me and well i got arrested at some point and that was not so pleasant. that said i never remotely dressed like a thug. granted i stole mostly computer things, but i think it was mostly because my circle of friends were geeks. honestly it was quite a thrill.

anyway if you watn to know the real shoplifters, they are the ones who stay in the store for like 25 minutes buying nothing and browsing . they are looking for the right spot to drag whatever they are buying to so that the angles of those black ball cameras are obstructed. that and women given they have giant purses , i mean how useful would a purse be to shop lift right?. see the thing is most of the store employees probably dont care its the security guys in the back who get paid to do it. no one wants to have to really move for a minimum wage job. shoplifting is sort of an artform really. want to steal clothes and they have an anti theft tag on them? well.. steal the tool that removes those anti theft tags, i knew someone who had done that.

Don't try and justify it, you were a pretty lousy person as a teenager. Stealing hundreds if not thousands of dollars of electronics is not what a normal good teenager would do. You may not do it anymore but if you don't regret what you've done in the past you're still a lousy person.

Getting caught and doing service doesn't make them a good person. The guy doesn't regret his actions, he just regrets getting caught.

I like how I'm being labeled a racist although I mentioned no race. Those of you who are assuming the race of a shoplifter are the racists.

People stole stuff all the time from the drug store where my wife used to work. She wasn't allowed to stop them or do anything other than walking up to them and asking if they needed help. Whenever she called the manager he'd just tell her to hold off and then go about his business as if nothing was happening. They never even called the cop on duty (working at the grocery store that the drug store was a part of) because they were so afraid of getting sued or something. Like, unless the cop himself or the manager witnessed someone actually taking an item off the shelf and hiding it, they wouldn't do anything because they didn't trust what their employees said.

The only time they'd send anyone to stop shoplifters was the one day a week that their loss prevention guy was in the store, and even then they usually waited so long that the shoplifter was gone.

Oh and she had her fair share of people trying to swindle them by "returning" things they had just picked up in the store, of course without ever presenting a receipt and always wanting cash.

...and this makes you feel big and mighty enough to call him a lowlife...because?

First, I didn't call him a low life. Second, we all make mistakes. My problem with that guy isn't that he made a few mistakes in his past, it's that he doesn't feel bad about it at all.

Derp and that's what makes him a lowlife still. He has no remorse over being a lowlife. He only was punished, being punished doesn't make you a better person.

It's the atmosphere of distrust that scenes like this create that is the regrettable thing. People shouldn't have to live in such circumstances, but much of the world is like that, unfortunately. Real integrity comes from within.

OP, you are just as guilty as the shoplifter. the only difference is he wore a doorag.

I love how everyone on the internet, specifically the AT forums pretends to have PERFECT morals and ethics.

F*ck you, its not my problem the store clerk doesn't have proper surveillance and/or security.

A smart man knows to mind his own damn business because when you start poking your nose into other peoples matters, the result is more often a can of worms.

Who knows, maybe the thug will let a couple of his buddies wait for you outside the mall when you leave.

Let me guess, you would take your gun out to try to stop a holdup at your bank too right?

People who dress in do-rags and pants that don't stay up are much more likely to be low-lifes. People DO deserve to be judged for their appearance.

actually you cant necessarily tell from appearance, not all shoplifters are "thugs". i went to school with a white kid whose parents were bankers (they later sold their bank and made 3 billion each) and he stole everything--food, sodas, batteries, clothing, electronics, office supplies etc... it was funny, it was almost as if he had mental problem that prevented him from paying for anything.

Trust me, that place was fucked up. The good employees were treated like shit, the worst slack-off employees occasionally got toothless warnings but were never seriously disciplined, no one was ever treated with the slightest amount of respect or dignity, people in management did literally nothing and had their underlings do everything for them (including stuff they weren't technically allowed to do). Lots of the better employees turned into complete slackers as they realized that hard work was punished and laziness was not.

Idealy it would be nice to do something when you see that, but in the US you never know if the thug has a gun (which he probably has). Best to not get in the middle of it or you could end up dead or seriously injured.

Self-justification AND blaming the victim.

Pity we don't have caning in this country.
