Saw Blade Runner for the first time the other day.

Great film! I always knew it was a cult classic but never got around to seeing it. Funny how it always just manages to skirt the edge of overdoing it but never really goes overboard in any one area too much, unlike the sh!t load of copycats after it there is a lot of genuine art in this film. It's not a 100% successful movie but it's definitely very good!

I couldn't get into it. It got way over hyped for me and that kind of ruined it, since I went in with these incredible expectations that didn't get fulfilled. I guess the movie was alright, but I can't understand the cult following.

Well I saw the new directors cut which from what I understand is much much better than the version that aired in theatres. It's much darker and lacks the Harrison Ford narrative in the original. Also the ending was changed. This is the version that Scott claims he wanted to release.

Yeah I understand it exists in Blu-Ray! And I have a very good setup for watching it in HD. I'll have to see if I can get a hold of it.

It's a cult classic because it tanked at the box office and most reviewers didn't like it at the time. It didn't have a huge following when released.

The Vangelis soundtrack is amazing as-is the whole environment with the movie. The grit feel like a detective movie but placed in a scifi future is just awesome.

There was a great documentary on Google Videos about the making of the movie and the trouble it went through. A really interesting video -- but I can no longer find it on there nor can I remember the name

Fantastic cinematography, fantastic script, fantastic acting.

I admit that I even got emotional at the end when somebody saved somebody (you know what I mean if you've seen it). And a suprisingly clean movie. If it weren't for the bewbies, it could have easily been pg-13.

I liked the part where they were giving the individuals tests and had strange questions in which they responded to in a particular manner. Also, the way they kill themselves in the end instead of killing the main character or instead of having him kill them is a nice touch that adds to the feel of the movie.

You gain alot more appreciation from the movie when you realize what year it came out. Sci-fi in movies was basically only Star Wars and Alien at that point. All of the earlier sci-fi was the junk like plan 9 from outer space and they came from mars and stuff. The movie still being relevant even 25 years later is just amazing.

Yeah whats so interesting about the movie is the time frame it came out. It did so poorly in the theaters because of its dystopian vision during a time of optimism. There were fears that the Japanese were going to buy America and you can see that in the very strong Asian influence of the city. Many people have written entire papers on these topics:

Its so rare to see a science fiction movie that truly can be considered an artistic film.

Directors Cut is the best by far. I have it on DVD. Great movie IMO.

We had it running at our local theatre recently. Much better without the voice over. Will always be the debate: was Dekker a Nexxus or not?

So many things in the movie that we now take for granted. Three year before this movie came out we had the Star Trek motion picture (1979) and then the year before, the Wrath of Kahn. So it was really just either campy or just plain space opera. Brade Runner sstarted the whole future dystopia style of sci-fi movies for the rest of the 80s.

Interestingly enough, I like the movie and all the discussions it can spawn, but it is not my favorite sci-fi movie...

I remember seeing the film for the first time, in 1985 or 1986... I was absolutely stunned... somehow, it left an indelible impression in my mind.

Over the years, I collected various formats and versions of the film... besides the old VHS tapes, I now have the Embassy laserdisc, the Criterion laserdisc, the original 1997 DVD version (one of the first DVDs ever made, featuring only the Director's Cut), and now I've just acquired the 4-DVD Complete edition and the HD-DVD Ultimate pack... that's without mentioning documentaries and bootlegs... also the New American Orchestra "orchestral version" soundtrack LP, the Vangelis official soundtrack CD and other more or less "official" releases...

I may have to rent it again. I didn't get it at all (and got quite bored) the first time I saw it.

SaltBoy, the Us version allegedly removed some of the blood and gore compared to the EU version. The Final Cut looks a lot more gory than the previous versions. It may actually deserve an R rating - though maybe not by current standards.

I disagree 100%. I have read the book and preferred the film version. I felt the book's tone was off, and it was too full of unrealized ideas that detracted from the main vision of the book.
