On Sunday I was coming home from a family get together on the 60 FWY here in California. It was about 9pm and traffic was moderate. Well this truck comes flying up the freeway tailgating people and cutting people off. It didn't get near me so I didn't think twice about it. Almost typical driving over here. Then about two minutes later I notice in the fast lane cars are starting to hit their brakes and change lanes. I figure someone stalled or something. As I get closer I see the truck that was driving like a douche bag stopped with another car in front of it. Then I notice the passenger of the car is out of the car walking towards the truck. As I pass by them I see the passenger of the car take a full on swing at the passenger of the truck who is by now out of the truck. Holy crap! Traffic is still zooming by them, they are in the middle of the fast lane fighting. At that point I wish I would have had a camcorder because you know that tape would be worth some dough. I guess someone got tired of the truck tailgating him and decided to do something about it. I've been pissed while driving, but never thought it was enough to fight over....especially in the middle of the freeway.

would have been better if a cop saw them, pulled over, and knocked them both out with his nightstick.

i cant count the times i have seen two cars chasing each other on the freeway zipping in and out of lanes cutting people off at very high speeds...scary as heck, knowing that can cause a horrible crash or even start shooting each other

Some '89 Accord was driving behind me with his brights on... and we're both doing 80+... and I wasn't about to go faster to let him through... I was already following other people doing 80. Well he stuck back there with his brights (as if he didn't know they were brights) for a good 5 minutes. Finally he decides to try the right lane. Well he tailgated someone there too... and they obviously got pissed about it because they went to another lane, letting him pass, then they return to the lane and tailgated the Accord and flashed his brights at him. I loved it. If I were driving a crap car, I woulda done the same thing this vigilante driver did to the Accord too... he deserved it.

Things like this happen pretty often on the Belt Pkwy / SSP in NY... so even this kind of behavior doesn't deserve a fist fight. You'd actually have to hit someone for them to even care enough to stop.

Another time, a while back, my brother and I were in the carpool lane doing a good 80-85mph when some jackass starts tailgating us. My brother just stayed at his pace, which is what I would have done too. We needed to exit the carpool lane to transition to another freeway (the 15). This guy was really on our ass, but about 100 yards in front of us in the same lane was this plastic and metal crate. Or at least it looked like a crate. When my brother saw it he said "Watch this". We swirved out of the way of the crate at the last minute leaving the jackass behind us nowhere to go and he hit the crate and started dragging it under his front bumper making this loud ass scraping noise. Needless to say it was the funniest thing I'd seen in a while. Almost immediately the guy started to pull to the side of the freeway to get this thing out from under his car while we went on with our day. That was great.

A few months ago I was heading North on the 167 just south of Auburn (about 25 miles from Seattle) and I was traveling in the left lane doing about 65. The right lane was doing about sixty, and traffic was pretty moderate, there was someone in front of me and next to me.

Well, this asshole in an older white Subaru wagon with a big banner on the windshield and bright yellow foglights pulled up about five feet off of my bumper. There was no room to get over, so I slowed down. He proceeded to cut off somebody in the right lane and pull up next to me. (to pass I could only assume) When I looked over the kid was going nuts (and must have been on PCP or something) and was flailing his arms and screaming and whatnot.

He then began to swerve eraticaly, trying to 'fake me out' or whatever poor driving habit that is that ricers excersize they looks suspiciously like they are after one of those punch the monkey banners on their windshield. Apparently the monkey must have moved into my lane, because he followed. I was in my Supra and I punched it to get out of the way, and the guy lost control of his car and ended up doing a 540 in the middle of the freeway from about 65 mph. He knicked the concrete divider and one of his tires looked like it blew up, and the truck behind him missed him by about a foot.

Honestly I would not have stopped if the guy had rolled it and died because idiots with that little regard for other people's safety in traffic don't deserve to live.

That is great. I've always wanted to "fake" someone out almost the same way... you know... AS IF something was out on the road... oh how I wish there really were like in your situation.

couple years ago on sr410 was pretty heavy traffic and i was driving my 4x4. it's a pretty big truck, 36" tires 6 inch lift, lots of horses. there was some punk in his pearl white riced civic that almost caused like 5 accidents that i saw as he was flying through traffic, cutting off people and passing on the shoulder. well he got behind me going up the winery hill into bonney lake and he couldn't get around me because of the barrier and a dump truck. he finally gets in front of the dump truck and is looking like he's going to try and cut me off. hit the stop light before he could get in front of me, so he's sitting next to me and he gets out of his car and is yelling and threatening me. smart move for some little asian peckerweed to be doing to a guy who could drive over his car after i kick his ass. so i am just like shut the fvck up and go away jackass. so comes around and spits a big lugie on my truck. light turns green we go about 2 blocks to the next red light. put it this way, it is not a wise idea to spit on a cowboys truck when he has a bigassed dip of redman in and a pissed off attitude....needless to say that was one dumbass ricer...with a big old puddle of black goo all over his hood.
i must have laughed for 20 minutes at lthe look on his face when i repaid the favor. saw his car again about a month later and that nice white paint had a big brown stain on the hood. don't think he'll spit on someone elses car again.

I think it's attitudes like this that cause most of the road rage. I'm not deciding anything for YOU. I'm deciding that I'M already doing 80 and don't want to go any faster. If you want to go faster, go ahead, but it's not my job to get out of YOUR way. Just because you are going fast doesn't mean that we all have to watch for you and yield to your ass. When I know I'm going fast and someone is not getting out of my way I don't get pissed. It's nothing personal, they are just driving at what speed they are comfortable with. I go around them and everything is fine.

Amen to that.

If I'm already going 15mph above the speed limit and some jackass with no respect for the safety of others wants to go 110, go right ahead but I don't have any obligation to bow graciously out of your way.
Also, if you're going to be obnoxious and get right on my ass to "intimidate" me into moving over, I got news for you. My pickup is bigger than your Camaro. It may not be faster but it sure is a lot heavier. When I slam on my brakes because of the unpredictable LA traffic, it's you who will have the major accident damage and it's you who will be footing the bill for BOTH cars repairs.

I agree with mrchan, the fast lane is meant for people going fast.. dont you see all the signs that say slower traffic keep right? So if your going slow, move the hell over its not difficult. Road rage is caused by people who can't follow this simple common sense. I for one gladly get over if some1 wishes to go faster then I do.

It was always my take that smaller/lighter cars will stop sonner than larger/heavier cars. That is to say that your reaction time is quick enough and that when you apply the brakes, they don't lock up, etc, and that you are't just watching the car in front of you, but several cars up for their brake lights too (but thats kinda hard with a big truck in front of you.)

Now if the situation was reversed, and the lighter/smaller car was in front of the big truck, and the car braked (because of unpredictable traffic), then perhaps the truck would not be able to stop as quickly as the car and would hit.

I will NEVER move over for someone who is tailgating me. I agree with you, if someone is doing 60 in the fast lane they should get over. But my opinion of fast is 80mph. That seems to be the general consensus because I rarely get tailgated. But once in a while some jackass has to go 95mph. For that guy, I am not moving. He is being inconsiderate and dangerous.

Wow, great stories!!! Keep them coming!

I live in SoCal, and the general level of driving ability has deteriorated immeasurably over my 13 years of driving (29 now, been driving since I was 16). It just amazes me sometimes what people do while driving.... I really think some of these people are completely insane. Literally insane. Anyways, I've had a few run-ins over the years, but I'm too tired to recount the stories now..
