I was standing in line for a quick fast-food lunch at the McDonald's union. Two people in front of me was an oriental guy, middle-aged. He approached the counter, looked up at the menu, and in halting english, asked for a "chicken burger". From that moment until about 30 seconds after he had left the counter, everyone working in that establishment mocked that poor guy for his grasp of the english language, repeatedly saying things like "Didn't think we served chicken burgers here", "If he can't read, he shouldn't have ordered", and (once) "Hey, I don't think we got chicken burgers in here, how bout some fried lice?"
Ridiculous. Appalling. I turned my heel and ate at the Rice Garden.
WHat's wrong with people these days? The peopel behind the counter didn't have the best usage of the language either. Sounded like ebonics to me.
