chicken burger sounds good to me. descriptive and has a nice ring to it. if veggie eaters can say veggie burger why can't he say chicken burger? its certainly no worse than when my father goes to taco bell and asks for a "few crunchy tacos".

 I'm tired of Oriental being a bad word.

Here here! And here's a beer!

that's like saying I'm tired of "Colored" being a bad word.

Maybe we should go back to calling black people colored?

I don't personally think there's anything wrong with saying "colored". People only seem to think it's bad because it's the term that was used 60 years ago, as though being old makes it bad. It's like racial terms just go out of style or something. It's the same thing with Oriental. If you look up the word and it's etymology, there is absolutely nothing offensive about it.

around here, the McDs employees are all HS students who've been exposed to nothing in the real world. Sad and sickening at the same time.

And being asian and a bit older than those employees... I would've loved to have been in line a few customers after him so I could say something myself.

when the hell did Oriental become a bad word? I'm half asian/oriental and I've never heard of it being offensive. It definitely isn't offensive to me. Now you start calling me a go0k, ch1nk, or slant-eyes and we gots some problems.

How about just calling all Asian cultures "Eastern"? Is that offensive?

Don't we generally identify people geographically? Like Yankee, Southerner, Middle Eastern, South African.

Every McDonalds has a plaque by the serving counter with the management information as well as a nationwide contact number. In addition to walking out you should call that number and report what you saw. I bet McDonalds would come down hard on the people running that store but they can't do that if they don't know it is taking place.

No it is not, because it has not followed the same path and usage as the term "oriental". The word oriental was used to define Asia (negatively) as the polar opposite of the West in looks, culture, and ways of thinking. That is why it should only be used for objects, and not people.

i.e. East Asian person, Oriental rug. Not Oriental person, East Asian rug.

If you at least go to the website and complain, you'll probably end up with some free food. I complained on BWW's website because it took 45 minutes to get my food, and I got a $20 credit.

Was it East or West that decided that the polar opposite of West was a bad thing?

And if it is SO offensive, wouldn't you want people to call it an Asian rug as well? I mean, as long as we are using the "colored people" example, do you think that blacks would be upset if you called an African rug a nig-rug?

I was standing in line for a quick fast-food lunch at the McDonald's union. Two people in front of me was an oriental guy, middle-aged. He approached the counter, looked up at the menu, and in halting english, asked for a "chicken burger". From that moment until about 30 seconds after he had left the counter, everyone working in that establishment mocked that poor guy for his grasp of the english language, repeatedly saying things like "Didn't think we served chicken burgers here", "If he can't read, he shouldn't have ordered", and (once) "Hey, I don't think we got chicken burgers in here, how bout some fried lice?"

Ridiculous. Appalling. I turned my heel and ate at the Rice Garden.

WHat's wrong with people these days? The peopel behind the counter didn't have the best usage of the language either. Sounded like ebonics to me.

Try using the right terminology before you get mad at bigots.
