For the record, my wife's parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles have all immigrated from Hong Kong. English is not their first language, and sometimes I have trouble understanding what they say. But never would it even cross my mind to hold that against them, family or not. I can't speak a lick of any language other than English, and sometimes I butcher it up so bad that I have to wonder at what I just said.

I have great respect for people who learn other languages, it's pretty hard to do, and for some of us it's downright impossible.

b) scolded them in front of many people making them look like fools
c) call your local news station, maybe they'll print something in a back page
d) call their head office, tell them when and where, and get the manager and some staff fired from their 'McJob'

They're young, insecure young men. They're just trying to have a good laugh, not trying to make the guy feel bad. He wasn't in their presense, nor were any other Asians/Orientals when they said this were there? They were a little foolish to say it loud enough where any customers could hear it. But it's McDonald's, c'mon, what do you expect? I don't consider myself racist, at least in no hateful way (I tend to assume some stereotypes, but give everybody/anybody a chance to prove them wrong), but I don't see what they did as such a big deal.

Oops, re-read the original thread, are you saying they did this in front of the man? In that case I would have told the Managers. Definitely out of line. Specially to make someone feel unwelcome to a public eating spot, I'm sure the Managers wouldn't approve of that.

Where I grew up in south Texas I was constantly made fun of by Mexicans and Blacks because I am Asian. I found white people rarely made fun of me. I think to a lot of Mexicans and Blacks, it is not racist to make fun of Asians.

It is quite common in my experience for a lot of indigenous people of Central and South America to make fun of me, I am east Asian. Indigenous as American Indian of Central and South America. Many of these people that make fun of me cannot even speak English. I have never had problems with North American Indians (I went to a school in a North American Indian town) nor people of primarily Spanish descent, I lived in Spain for a short while and never had a problem there. Most of my problems have been from people of Aztec descent.
