I'm not into the books and I never got into the dungeons and dragons thing but I gotta admit, that movie was great.

Big Tex I saw it yesterday as well. It is the greatest movie I have ever seen. I mean that in all honesty. The movie is flawless. The special effects are original and terrific. The story line is flat out genius. The acting is perfect. And the ending catches you on the blind side as well. It is the best I have ever seen and will probably be among the greatest ever. I find it interesting that another of the great movies was a childrens movie as well, The Wizard of Oz. The original. Not any of those other ones.

Well, I won't go out on a limb like Classy did and say it is the greatest movie ever. Far from it. However, I've seen it twice and enjoyed it thoroughly both times. The casting is absolutely fantastic! Robbie Coltraine and Alan Rickman shouldn't be not considered for an oscar just because they're in a kids film. The special effects aren't perfect, but definitely work. The music is outstanding. The production is flawless. My only gripe is the direction -- it seemed to be, believe it or not, a little bit dull at times.

Although Harry Potter was great, I still think Monsters, Inc. is a better movie.

Am I the only one that didn't think the movie was the bomb? I saw it this weekend and thought it was worth the price of admission..

but where was the plot? and it was totally predictable..

It was created for children, they wanted it to mirror the book...simple, clean, and fun.

Hey there Classy. Great comparison to the Wizard of Oz. That game they played on the brooms was my favorite part.

whew! i'm glad a couple of others weren't impressed. I thought it was disappointing. I read the books and listened to them on tape as well. maybe that jaded me or something, but I was truly disappointed! Still a good movie for the kids and prolly worth seeing once. but still I feel they dropped the ball!

wish Spielberg had done it; if he could pull another ET or Goonies quality flick... he can make kid actors really shine.

Saw it this weekend...I've never read the books and am also not very into D&D/Fantasy...I thought it was OK, but it didn't really offer much. Not really worth two and a half hours of my time...and it was actually quite predictable.
I agree that Monsters, Inc. was better, and I usually don't like that type of movie.

I saw it last week and thought it was great too. Even more amazing is that it's a children's movie (although some parts are admittedly too scary for the younger ones).

it was too drawn out and slow. I almost fell asleep. it's not a bad movie, but imho it's not what everybody's making it out to be.

I saw it opening Friday, then saw it again the next day, as I went with two different groups of people. I actually liked it better the second time, as the first time I was too busy picking it apart for what they did differently from the book, or left out completely. The second time, I was just free to enjoy it for what they did manage to do. I hope there is a Director's Cut on DVD that is even closer to the book, though.

I second that. The movie is at best, a good time killer.

No way, should the kids be nominated for anything.... Maybe a nick kids choice award or something, but they SHOULD NOT get a nod. If they do and Jim Carey misses out for the third time, the Academy would be/should be considered a farce...

Its a shame Harry Potter will beat out Monsters Inc and Shrek(both IMHO better movies) for a best picture nod. Miramax is already gearing up to push a French film into the best picture race, and Ali and LoTR will likely get nods, the 5th wont be animated, I can bet on it, Majestic has a chance of getting the push to get a nod, it would make it 3 for 3 for the guy that did Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption(forgot his name), but it will have to edge out another Miramax film, The Shipping News. Best Actor should come down to Will Smith, Jim Carey, Kevin Spacey, Russel Crowe, and a fifth that WILL NOT BE A KID or someone from LoTR, who the fifth one will be I dunno, but if Carey gets jipped again, or Smith doesn't get a nod for Ali, the Academy is stupid...

Saw it expecting nothing out of it....and walked away pleased. Instant children's classic IMHO.

I was very disappointed in the movie.

I was expecting something great but what I got was a very predictable plot without much content.

That broomstick game was idiotic. I hadn't read the book and I could tell exactly what would happen next.

That movie was definately not worth any records!

Way too much hype and no delivery!
