I'm a Sox fan, and there are actually THREE teams that matter - Sox, Yanks, and unfortunately, the Rays.
In all seriousness, every team matters to me. The problem with the Sox is, they can't win IN Tampa (they can hardly beat the Rays anymore period); they can't beat Toronto; they can't beat Texas; they can't beat LAAAAAA Angels (unless its the post-season).
I'm afraid the Sox are heading for a downward spiral, ala 2006. This Yankee series is shaping up to be like that (even though the Sox are 8-0 against the Yanks this year, they're still 2.5 games back! Insane!). The sweep in Tampa was a killer, especially with the way the Sox choked the first game away and had to use their whole bullpen only to lose in 13 innings. Gag me.

Unlike the Phils, the Sox actually play in a tough division. A ridiculously tough division, actually.

fuck, are you serious? goddammit.
I'm worried about a repeat of 2006 too. What happened to this team?

That's just it. NOTHING happened to this team. They're just mostly old and quite honestly, overrated.
Theo's 'low-risk/high-reward' signings turned into 'no-risk/no-reward' signings - Baldelli, Penny, Smoltz
With Paul Byrd's signing, it's even more ridiculous. We have a true ace (Beckett), a borderline ace/#2 (Lester), and now five #5 starters - Byrd, Smoltz, Wakefield, Penny and Buchholz.
Our bullpen is overrated, and our offense is completely gone. Papi, Drew, Lowell and especially Tek (man he is completely worthless) are so bad and so old.
There are so many holes to fill on this team. Theo's gonna earn his money this season, this off-season and next. Good luck with all of that.
It's very possible. After Tito emptied the 'pen Tuesday night they sent Reddick down to make room for lefty reliever Traber. Then JayBay tweaked his hamstring running out a groundball Wednesday night. Green came in. Ugh...Originally posted by: acheron

Slightly off the topic, but I've worked a couple of nights at my old job and have been forced to listen to the horrible thing called yankee radio broadcasting. Are there any worse broadcasters in all of sports? Some of the comments even make Madden look like a friggin genius. "He would have had him out by a couple of feet, but he dropped the ball." "That's right. The ball went into the glove, and it came out of the glove and fell to the ground, and that's how he dropped it." (Tuesday night's game IIRC) Completely devoid of any emotions or any thought, as if they're just going through the motions of announcing the game, with absolutely no concern of being replaced by a better broadcaster.
And it's here now... Baldelli to the DL with a sore foot!Originally posted by: acheron

Yeah, I saw Green come in last night. If Bay's still hurting I would think they'd go Baldelli/Ellsbury/Drew... Drew sat last night just because of the lefty pitcher. Hopefully Drew's ok to go tonight.
Youkilis has played outfield a couple games too, though I think he said that he hates it. But that's another emergency option.

Suzyn Waldman is the worst radio broadcaster in baseball in my opinion. Usually John Sterling does a pretty good job though.

Tonight Youk starts in left field. VMart catching, Casey Kotchman gets his first Sox start at first, Lowell back at third, and Papi is the DH.
