Lefties are hitting something like .440 against him with an OPS of 1.1+. I'm not sure they could do that against a batting practice pitcher.

Slightly off the topic, but I've worked a couple of nights at my old job and have been forced to listen to the horrible thing called yankee radio broadcasting. Are there any worse broadcasters in all of sports? Some of the comments even make Madden look like a friggin genius. "He would have had him out by a couple of feet, but he dropped the ball." "That's right. The ball went into the glove, and it came out of the glove and fell to the ground, and that's how he dropped it." (Tuesday night's game IIRC) Completely devoid of any emotions or any thought, as if they're just going through the motions of announcing the game, with absolutely no concern of being replaced by a better broadcaster.

Suzyn Waldman is the worst radio broadcaster in baseball in my opinion. Usually John Sterling does a pretty good job though.

This isn't just your opinion, it's a fact. She's an embarrassment to the sport, she's so bad. I would feel sorry for Yankee fans that have to listen to her, but it's bad enough they have to root for the Yankees.

SHe's really brought Sterling down. I'm an intense Yankee fan myself but those two make the games seem really boring - I have a hard time focusing on the action.

In the old days I used to watch the games on TV, mute the sound, listen to the radio. Now I watch the game on TV, mute the sound, and check out the action online.

And nobody cares.

The thing is he still seems to have enough of a fastball and his breaking stuff looks good too.
It may just be a matter of a few more outings, though the question is can the Sawx wait for him?

+1

Waldman, Sterling & Kay are all horrible. Sterling is probably the most tolerable, but those stupid homerun calls pretty much wreck it.

Sterling and Kay did the Yankees radio broadcasts for like 15 years I think.

Any old school yankee fan probably remembers watching the games on channel eleven when Phil Rizzuto was the commentator. That guy was friggen awesome, so genuine and he always had great stories from when he played with the legends like Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford.

So sad that he's gone

It was very ugly. Smoltz+Traber=launchfest.

Tonight Beckett should keep 'em in the game if the Boston bats can bring some offense. *crosses fingers*

Lowrie will be DL'd, Junichi Tazawa was called up, and they claimed infielder Chris Woodward off waivers from Seattle.

I don't even really watch Baseball, but for some reason I absolutely hate the Yankees. I hope they get beaten down tonight. Too bad about last night, but I kind of expected it.

I'm a Yankees fan and I'm glad that we won last night but I feel bad for John Smoltz. It's sad when a once great pitcher gets clobbered like that. I don't know what the Red Sox are going to do for pitching though. Lester and Beckett are as good a 1-2 combo as anyone in the AL has but beyond that it doesn't look that great. Yankees rotation is also messed up with Wang gone but at least we have 4 starters that have a good chance of going out there and pitching well. Only when Mitre is pitching is there a problem, at that point you just pray the Yankees offense goes crazy.

It's not just the starting pitching. The Red Sox have had terrible injuries this year and they've come at bad times. Even though he wasn't hitting of late, losing Jason Bay was huge. The offense is already bad enough when he's in the lineup, but now it looks like he'll sit tonight too. It looks like they'll go with a rotation of Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Penny, Tazawa. Yikes. Penny just isn't that good. Tazawa is going to get lit up and, until Buchholz gets out of his own way, he's a liability to give up 5 - 6 ER a night.

Boston's role in the AL East is going to be decided over the next two weeks. They have a tough stretch of games ahead. If they can't find a way to win, that mid-September Rays roadtrip won't matter nearly as much

Yesterday was the perfect time for A-Rod. The Yanks had a big lead. Time for him to bear down and pad those stats!

I was shocked to see he was /is getting paid 5 mil for the one year contract, sounds mighty pricey for a 43 year old coming off major shoulder reconstructive surgery, no disrespect for a future HOF'er but what were the sox thinking spending that kind of $$..

I set the DVR to record for 5 hours and 45 minutes. This morning when I resumed watching from the 6th inning I couldn't believe I was about to run out of time!
A-Rod won the game with 2 minutes left on the DVR!
