I'm okay with getting an x1 audio card, but only if the board has dual LAN ports. But that is, of course, only if the x1 doesn't get covered up by a dual slot GPU.

Are we going back to the days of the socket 423 or something here?

What motherboard does not have at least onboard audio this is a performance class motherboard and it doesn't offer dual lan or audio?

How could it sell unless its gonna be like $30 cheaper then any other x79 option period,this way you could at least spend that $30 on a soundcard....blows my mind sorta like the old motherboards on the 775 offering floppy support..

Edit: lol it has a pci 1x card...sorry for the rant lol but still a pesky card i do prefer onboard as do most...one less thing taking up expansion ports

I agree - it's the whole point I bring it up. If you are going to spend the money on the creative card and rebranding - just go the extra bit and onboard it. Then move the x1 out of the way of a dual SLI setup and we're fine. I can always pickup an x1 NIC (or audio) card.

But most of them have strange SLI setups (like the Intel board that requires dual slot GPUs in 2x16 to be next to each other) or require you block the x1 so they can fit more x4/x8/x16 slots.

(And I am by no means an expert of any degree - if I am wrong, mistaken, etc.. please correct me!)

Asus is good on supplying xfi audio on the motherboard they do a good job of this.

This daughtercard deal is a bit much these days.

Love how it will be sandwiched between dual gpu cards...poor thing would have been better placed at the bottom

Just noticed, the sound card has an additional LAN port, and you don't have to put the card in the X1 slot ..

You can arrange things however you choose..

Meaning it can go into a bigger pci-e slot? like one meant for x4/x8 operation?

Sure.. It just uses the front part of the slot .. That floored me when I 1st figured it out.. I was having fits with a TV card I thought had to go in an X1 slot..

Interestingly enough, any PCI-e device will work in any PCI-e slot. Check out this x16 card that has been modded to fit into a x1 slot.

I've been messing with mine for 3 hours. The 64 bit folder on the raid driver isn't working for me.

What I'm trying to find out, is if anyone with an Asus X79 board gets the RAID BIOS option during POST .. Before Windows starts to load, you should be able to press Ctrl + I and get a screen like this:

This is where you should be able to configure a BIOS level RAID with the Intel controller .

What did you use to set up your RAID ?
The Bios, the RST console or something else ?

The Asus P9x79 Pro is busted in this regard, so I'm trying to find out if other Asus X79 boards are affected..

I will be recieving my own P9X79 Pro sometime today.
I'll check back to the thread when I've fiddled a little with it. I initially hoped to set up a Raid0 of 2x SSDs and a Raid10 of 4x HDDs. Maybe there's a slim chance it's batch specific, or that it's something related to hardware configuration. You never know. Same or differing results will tell us something, at least.

Diogenes2, what is your P9X79's serial number?

The end build having done the replacement will be:
i7 3930K; Corsair H100
32GB DDR3 Vengeance 1600mhz
2x Gainward GTX 580
2x Corsair Force 3 120gb Raid0
4x Samsung Spinpoint F4 1TB 7200RPM Raid10
1x Samsung Spinpoint ,5TB 7200RPM
Fractal Design Newton R2 1000w
All crammed into a lovely Antec Twelve Hundred

On a slightly different note;
The Raid10 array I use for media and other files that needn't go on the ssd-array, will I be able to plug it in and keep using it with the new mobo and processor? The old mobo and processor it was created and used with was a Maximus III Formula, with an i7 860. Both the Raid0-array and the Raid10-array were installed in Intel's SATA set, using the Intel controller, set up using Intel Rapid Storage Technology.

Will the array be usable by the new P9X79's intel controller?
I read somewhere that Windows should actually be able to cope with a mobo and processor change as well, could/should I try to keep the ssd-array (As it's a bit of a hassle to reinstall everything) in the mobo replacement?

I get the RAID BIOS with my Asus P9X79 Deluxe. It's shown before the motherboard power on self test. I can see how you can miss it if you monitor switches resolutions slowly.

Yes, exactly as AK47 says. The ASUS boards put up the RAID notice before some slower monitors even switch out of energy saving mode, which annoys the heck out of me. I have some older Samsung 21" LCDs that I cannot use when setting up these boards. Try just hitting CTRL-I or holding it down immediately on power up. That works for me on the Z68 boards. Haven't tried on my R4E yet.

Yes i see mine. The 64 bit drivers aren't showing my raid drive tho.

I have raid in bios, i have setup raid with Intel config. i need those 64 bit drivers to work.. Cox when i do a32 bit install everything works fine.

Thanks for all the replies from everyone.

Knowing the RAID options for my P8Z68 Deluxe, this X79 should have been similar, but the CTRL - I and CTRL - M ( For the Marvell controller ) are just not there during POST.
I hope for the sake of ImpulseNOR and other users, it was some defect in my board, but it certainly seems to be a BIOS issue.

I can't do any further testing at this time, because I chose to RMA to Newegg, and they are giving me a store credit ( at my request ) instead of a replacement . I think I am going to go with the Asrock Extreme 9. While all of the features of that board seem to be too good to be true for the price, Asrock seems to have a pretty good reputation these days, so I think I will give it a shot..

You can have any combination of RAID and non RAID you want as long as you have the ports.
You just can't create arrays that span the controllers.

Actually, you may be able to span the controllers if you use Windows Disk Management to create RAID.. I'm not sure ..

Not an option I would use though ..

If you're not installing windows to a raid volume, it's super easy to set up raid. The hassle we're experiencing is providing the drivers for the raid to be recognized during install/post install. I wasn't connected online at first so i was having alot of issues with it.

@Diogenes2 - Yes, my ASUS R4E boards give the CTRL-I RAID screen during POST, if my SATA mode is set to RAID.

I have a 3930k. If i can keep my temps close to 70c is it okay to put 1.5 on vcore? Or will that kill my Cpu in 2-3 years for everyday use?

I'm at 4.9ghz now on water.
